New OZLiberty Site Format

  Top of Page

I received an email inviting me to try the new forum site. The email mentioned my old user name so I tried to login. Didn't work. So where is the link to Site Admin on the home page when you have problems?

Site is now significantly slower than previously. Not happy Jan !!!

Hi there.
That's a shame that you're experiencing slow load times, as the average load time is around 1/3rd of the previous format.
Are there any pages in particular that are slower than others?
Did you try resetting your password at all?

Hi FOZ13, Sorry to be so negative on returning to the site, but a little frustrated on this end.

I used IE6 with XP SP3. Username is unchanged since joining a couple of years ago, MH3.0R. After I reset my password, the site decided to recognise me.

Also found some additional problems - cannot activate any options within the pull down lists in Forum, Community, Tech or Product Reviews. The lists are displayed, but when I move my cursor down to select one, the list box closes.

Also tried to edit/update my profile and there are strange options in the pulldown lists. e.g. Gender, only option is "1". Same for Country and others.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Hi XoN,

Have reset the password. Maybe related to the IE 6 XP SP3 that I am running. But this is the only site I have had trouble to date. All pages are slow at this point.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Thanks for the feedback Mark, I'll see if I can rustle up a computer with IE6 on it for some testing.

Its def. an IE6 issue, IE6 should be discontinued. Update maybe? I know that being on a work computer sometimes updating isn't an option.
Maybe try installing Firefox.

Anyway, XON will try to resolve the IE6 bug, but thanks for the feedback. The OzLib team is on the case smile

Re: New OZLiberty Site Format

i think this is a nice upgrade from the last version...real potential i think!
hopefully it gets members talking...which attracts more members/sponsors!

some things i think would vastly improve the site:
*preview of first post
*link to page 1,2,3,last
*ability to customise the number of replies to a page?
*ability to rate suppliers like in the part review section

congrats on the launch too btw! would it be possible to get an update on what changes are currently/going to be implemented? might keep people like me quiet haha

goodluck and i hope the site is successful and grows from here on!

Re: New OZLiberty Site Format

Thanks CHU85, the issues raised in these threads are all getting 100% action. links to pages has to do with search engine friendly urls and is top of the charts.

I am interested in your thinking about the rate suppliers. one of the major features getting some polish is the sponsors directory, it is a business listing basically which will allow user ratings. Credit should be given where its earned I believe. In the end the members will get better services supplied I hope.

UPGRADE from IE6 NOW!!!

It is the death of all the beautiful websites that get created still to this day!  Many extra hours spent "hacking" or "fixing" for people who don't upgrade! Get with the times please. I second the firefox idea.

Now I got that out of the way (web developer, sorry IE6 really bugs me), I like the cleanliness and the look of the new site, but what's with all the html errors? Why go to the trouble of making something look great but not structurally sound? For the web developers try using Firefox with the latest version of firebug, and also the add-on: "HTML Validator" using the SGML Parser... it saves heaps of time instead of going to W3C back and forth.

But as I said very pleased with the look smile

As a fellow developer/designer Firefox is so 2009, Chrome is the new Firefox wink. So quick and easy to use. I still <3 firebug. Best tool ever big_smile

I will look into the HTML Validator sounds interesting... Thanks!

The HTML errors are inherent with combining different modules and plugins from different sources. Some people will adhere strictly to W3C, others just don't give a sh1t. We've ironed all the show stoppers out but obviously there are still some less major ones to fix on the run. And not to worry, we use firebug as well as Chrome and IE8's developer tools a lot wink

Ha ha ha, that was the first thing I thought of too.

As mentioned by someone else on another thread can we get the default setting on the 'subscribe' box set to unchecked?

This site goes from weakness to weakness.

It's slow regardless of the browser I'm using. Whether its firefox, IE7 or Safari.

The colour scheme is worse on the eyes. Five minutes, and they're sore.

The forums don't appear to have any set structure. I'm sure they do, but it all looks like a mess I'm afraid.

But ummm yeah. Keep up the good work..?

Well as per process we are addressing all the feedback received. I'll address your post point by point:

1. Slow regardless of browser. Slower than what? on average what is the page load times? what metrics are you running? ie
2. Not much we can do there sorry, try adjusting the brightness on your monitor.
3. The forums appear to not have any structure. The structure of the forums hasn't changed since we launched, what are you referring to?

Any further information appreciated.

Re: New OZLiberty Site Format

OK

To reply to your post:

1) It's still too slow compared to other forums (ie Subyclub, RSLibertyclub, ozfoz, ClubSub, rexnet) REGARDLESS OF BROWSER. That is, they're all the same speed. Slow. Sorry, not quite bothered to measure load times for you (I don't know what you use to measure time in, but where I'm from, its in seconds/milliseconds), but in general, the load times are somewhat of a struggle. Before you try anymore buck-passing, it's not my internet... Telstra Bigpond Cable Broadband. Yes it's running at its full speed.

2) Not much you can do? Ahem. Excuse me. Yes there is. It's called colour scheme. Its gone from bad to worse. No, not going to adjust my monitor. (is this how you ask for constructive feedback? By asking me to adjust my own monitor? Awesome. May as well tell you where to shove your own fist.)

3) Forum structure. I'm referring to the threads. Once in a thread, it is very very hard to distinguish between posts from one member to the next, as the colours you use to alternate between posts are far too similar.

Hey. You asked for constructive criticism. I'm giving it to you. I don't need your poor attitude. But you need my business. Along with other users here.

And business is about giving what the customer wants, yeah?

So let me spell it out for you nice and simple. Make it faster. Make it easier to read.

thanks.

Yeah lets ALL change our monitor brightness just for ozlib, That's a poor answer Foz, who chooses grey writing with a white backgroud? It's especially hard to read in the search bar on the home screen!
