New owner of Liberty GX 1998 Sydney Need some advice

  Top of Page

Hi guys,

I am a newcomer in Australia and in this forum.
I ve just bought a second hand Liberty GX 1998 Silver anniversary. The car has
140 000 kms.
The thing is i need some advice since I dont know anyone around.
I bought the car from a private seller. I dont understand a lot from cars so thats why I havent noticed that the clutch was actually slipping. So now i have to fix this problem somehow. I would prefer to go for standard absolutely normal original clutch - not a performance one. Can you please give me some advise where a reliable mechanic can check/ fix the car. I live in Sydney. As i hear the Subaru workshops are really expensive but at the end if I have no other choice I would go there.
Do you know how much approximately the clutch and the labour could cost.
thanks in advance

ey mate, we're in the same boat, i bought a 97 GX, its A1, got no probs, if u needed mod advice chek out my thread 'Noobie Scoobie' just snoop around the site for advice bout your clutch

oh and by th way, i workd at a Subaru workshop for a bit, its not too expensive and its all authentic parts, just make sure they dnt try to up sell anything, like upper engine flush, brake flush and rubbish like that unless u reely want it.

3rd post for the day, if you buy a car mag like Autosalon or Hot4's they'l have ads for clutches, u can buy the one you need, be careful its not dodgy and it's the right one, thn pop in2 ur closest Registered Soobie workshop and ask them to fit it for you, it may cost a tad more thn Honest John's Subaru Workshop dwn th road but it'll give you peice of mind. and as for price, i think i saw a sports clutch for bout $2500 so standard may be less, but i may be mistaken. hope this helps

Welcome to the site!

Good luck replacing the clutch. I got no idea what that'd set you back but someone here will know...
