New Member seeking info & help

  Top of Page

Hi Ozliberty,
I need some help. I'm in a quandry.  I am currently in between new cars, either a Liberty GT  2.5T B-Spec or an XT6T. I have been watching the XR6T Forums on a regular basis and have been an XR driver for 10 years now. However I am being swayed by the new GT 2.5T. Can anybody push me over into a Subaru?
Has anyone in this forum driven an XR6T (or been a previous Ford driver) and moved to a Subaru ? Any advice or can someone direct me to a thread that may help me make up my mind?
Cheers , Mike ACT.

firstly its a subaru. and we all know subaru > ford. secondly its a subaru and we all know subaru > ford.... thirdly.... big_smile

on a serious note, the liberty is a complete package - its damn good looking, its quick, it actually can pull up, very luxurious, much much better resale value and definately classier than the ford...

pro's for ford -
its slightly quicker than the GT.
RWD - does good skids

con's for ford -
not as good looking
17's
its got all that power and cant stop
you see a bazillion of them on the road. BORING
RWD, wont handle as good as the liberty

welcome, well on this site im sure the majority of people will say the GT over the XR6T, but it really depends on what you like, as alex said, the ford will be quicker due to the extra kw's but it wont handle like the lib,

i reakon you should just keep on taking them for test drives. in canberra a good place to take them is up mount taylor...the Subaru salesmen let the customers go up there anyway to show them how the car handles around the fast twisties,

but idd say go the GT. not many people own them and you will stand out more:)

Cheap, Easy and Big Gains to be had in the Ford. Can be pushed passed the 300kw mark without much difficulty. Resale would probably be better on Subaru and hold value a little more.

Ta for the feedback. Actually did take one for a drive today up Mt Taylor and then back and around via the parkway. Very impressed with the smoothness and get up & go. The GT however only had 150km's on the clock, still very green and cold! One failing I'm 1.83M tall. I can't stretch right out in either the passenger nor the drivers seat. The wife has a 2002 Golf in which I can stretch right out in both seats when pushed back. May be a problem on long drives to the outlaws in QLD.
Most impressed with the electronic displays. It makes the Ford look like a boring blackboard.
Am negotiating on the price at the moment. With a fleet discount and no GST (have a novated lease) with majority of options ex nav system (spoiler, side back skirt, mats,  covers, t-bar  etc), have priced at  $58.5K- this is $9k more than a fully optioned XR6T with John Bowe cold air induction and throttle body- ouch!
Anyway lets see where it heads from here,
Cheers
Mike

liberty will save that $9k in two years time, ford will lose it. did you try fiddling around with the 8 way electrics? i'm 1.83 too and my folks liberty is awesome with the 8 way adjustment can find the absoulte perfect spot!

I've got a BA mk 2 XR6 turbo. I've driven it for a year and its been a lot of loutish fun but I've also had enough of the unexplained rattles, clunks and bangs. And that's knowing all about the diff clunk that BA turbos have.

Great design, lots of fun at sensible speeds and an awesome highway car. When I was shopping for it, I looked at a B4 and thought I'll kill myself in this car trying to get sideways in it.

But its a 2 year old car that sounds like its going to fall apart in a year.

Depends on how long you want to keep it and whether you like low speed fun (XR6) or high speed thrills (GT)

I can't speak for the BF and whether they've solved the quality problems but I'm going back to a Subie.

I lurv the older fords, the real muscle car XY GT HO of course, LOL, the XR6T is quick as well!

I've seen the 6 do 220KW @ the wheels out of the factory of which I saw when we had our dyno day a few mths back. It was a ute.

Still value wise, it's doesn't have the best return value after a few years then they make taxi's out of them

Only u can make the choice dude!

Good Luck
