New Member new Project! 98 Outback USDM swap!

New to the site, coming from NYC area.

recently purchase a 1998 Outback wagon, and a full USDM ej205 WRX/trans etc for the swap. I also have a 04 JDM ej20x that id like to use the vf38 off of, but am having trouble finding an intercooler for this.

I'll try to get some photos up in the meantime, there is a serious lack of legacy love in the states and im real glad to have found this site!

You'd want a front mount wouldn't ya?  That shouldn't be too hard to find or fabricate...

Hi Dude.
get an ebay FMIC for like $300 USD, and bolt it in.  Should be pretty damn close.  If not then take the setup to your local exhaust shop and have them modify it a little to fit.

If you're into Turboing GenII stuff, check out RSLibbertyClub.org; search for threads started by Al.  He and a guy on that forum called Stints, run a company called AMauto.com (website not finished).  Al specialises in these sorts of projects, he's done about 70 WrX driveline into GenII Liberty (legacy) transplants.

Steps are basically.
1. Strip donor car.
2. Splice engine looms together
3. Bolt up everything new from the WRX
4. Drive home with a happy face.

There's a heap of info regarding the wiring splice (Al wrote a thread on that as well).  Al's on here as JkR25 or something similar.

Thanks for the superb reply djb! I have pretty much everything out of the car, dash trans motor etc. doing the wiring and working on putting new carp back in.. going fairly smoothly at the moment, but the wiring is the major headache as im sure you know. I'll look up al! thanks,
