New member Gen II GTB all the usual ??'s

  Top of Page

Joined today - already have more information from this site after 2 hours compared to a whole week at rslibertyclub.
I bought a stock 96 rebirthed Gen II GT with GTB specs about 6 months ago.
Very impressed with the thread on the path to Gen II upgrades, and I'll try the DIY CAI in the next couple of weeks.
My biggest ?? is re mod chips - the Cobb AccessPort looks to be a great system but not compatible earlier than '04.
Are there any compatible DIY chip flash or piggyback systems that you guys regularly recommend?  My last car was a '93 Liberty RS wagon, and I remember buying and installing a chip from a Melbourne-based guy through rslibertyclub about 6 years ago.   He made and programmed the chip himself, and it was highly regarded.   Was wondering if the same sorts of deals were around for the Gen II.

Look forward to a long and fast membership.

Hey Fellow Adelaidian.

got any pics of your car? there aint many of us round here with these.

anyway, re chips. our ecu's cannot accept a chip, everything is soldered on, the VOS chip you had for your RS was one of the best things about the old RS ecu.

your best bet is a piggyback to modify the signals from the sensors.
do you have a GT engine of  GTB engine?

Hey Billsy

I have very little information about the engine, which is why I'm here.  I bought the car from a Qld based guy.  It checked out mechanically very well, clean silver body, full Legacy GT interior, Bilstein shocks and brakes, just over 100k.

All I know is that it's a 1996 engine, so I'm trying to get more information to start the upgrades.  Probably not enough research before I bought, but as I said, it checks out pretty well.

WIil the engine code help ID more specifically?
Does the engine serial number correspond to it's model at all?

Other ??'s - did you do the CAI yourself, DIY parts, kit, or pro installation?
Would also like to know more about the TurboXS boost controller.

So much to learn, so little patience!!

Cheers - go the Croweater GT boys.

Seller's name was Adrian from somewhere in suburban Brisbane.  He wasn't much into performance, hence the stock everything, although there is a Blue Tooth receiver attached to the sound system, which is very handy for on board phone calls.

I'll get some pics up befor Xmas.  I just need to do a clean and detail first.

Interesting comment about the rsliberty site.  I just found it easier to find stuff here rather than there, but both sites are excellent and have a heap of helpful members.
