New Liberty S402!!!

  Top of Page

OK, I was reading this article about Mitsubishi's revisions to the EvoX and Subaru's lighter STi Spec C...when I read this at the end

Subaru is also planning to equip the new Legacy with the STI's drivetrain, a revised suspension and slapping on an "S402" badge on the back, along with a sporting interior with more grippy seats. All of this is only for JDM consumption at the moment

From a net search it wold appear that the S402 will be released June this year in JDM spec. We have already seen it as the B4 S Concept:

I'm guessing like the S401 was a late upgrade for the GenIII, Subaru are doing the same for the GenIV, pre re-modelling for MY09.

Rexnet had this over there for a few days now, and as I said there, it's a shame we won't get it here.
It would be a very expensive Liberty in Australia that is for sure.
If Subaru cut out the middle man in Australia (inchape) the cost may come down a fair bit.

Somehow the Tuned by STi Lib looks better then S402. However it would go like stink with the STi Drivetrain. Nice

Vents on the guards = wannabe M5.

I'd rather have all the go fast sh*t stuck into a truly lightweight Impreza than lumped into the Legacy. Make it 1100kg, give it some of the badAIDS and slap an RA-R badge on its arse. Done.

Wasn't there someone on here who had modded their Lib with the side vents a while back? He got grief at the time IIRC.

Re: New Liberty S402!!!

Im with marv and def not with fatcat on this one, why is it that whenever it comes to doing something really spesh, Subaru (or Sti more importantly) seem to do a half-arsed job, the RA-R is absolutely awesome (stripped out in factory spec, road going club track thingy) but this...meh, special rims, add ons, mild tune ecu, blah blah, cant they just make one really expensive, really powerfull, all out track orientated car, with like 350-380 hp, and super phat brakes, etc like the z-tune.im sure if they brouht it here some would buy it. This is  just sort of mediocre....I mean, for the price you could easily tune a  Gen III B4 to destroy it but hey, its when they come from the factory hot that really makes it cool.

Eg "Tatsumi and his chief stylist wanted to also redesign the front bumper section to give the car an even sportier look, but a price tag of around $600,000 for the special mold that would be required quickly put an end to their dreaming."

Take it back about the brakes..."We don't have to forgive anything about the brakes, though. They are phenomenally powerful, featuring Brembo-built, six-piston, monoblock front calipers and two-piston rear calipers. The S402 might be the first-ever Japanese sedan with a brake package that actually feels overengineered"

Re: New Liberty S402!!!

Hi,

I like the car. I also found it very interesting that on an American site that I frequent which deals mainly with very high end car owners, a thread about cars they wish were sold in the US turned up about 5 people, two of which own supercars, that had the S402 on their wish list!

I'm not sure comparing it to a semi stripped track version of a WRX has much point? I understand the hardcore track heads don't want a stereo/ac/carpet etc. I just feel that what you might want out of a car, isn't what the majority of people are chasing.

Cheers,
Nik
