New - Learner Driver

  Top of Page

Hey everyone,
I was searching for something to do with Liberty's on google and came across this site. Thought I might as well register as it looks good and helpfull.
Well anyway I turned 16 at the end of June and got my L's right after school. Earlier this year I bought myself a 1991 Subaru Liberty Heritage model. Its AWD, leather interior, sunroof, and has a CD player. Its in great condition apart from the paint (few scratches ad dents). It also got a new gearbox in it, that was included in the purchase price of $3,500 though. When I got it, there was only 119, 000 on the clock.

Overall I'm very happy with it, the only downer is that its an auto. I wanted a manual, but maybe in my next car.

Heres some pictures:

I plan to get some kind of an exhaust system (to get that boxer note), get it lowered, get some new rims (possibly from a later model subaru), put a new sound system in, and eventually get it resprayed the original colour.

Can anyone suggest where to go in South Australia for these things and house much they'd cost? My friend recommended S&J Automotive for the exhaust.

Thanks for looking, Tom.

Very nice car mate. very neat.

There are some very helpful threads on this forum.
Do a search to find them.

Also the auto isn't such a bad idea while your learning. Its one less thing to worry about.
Also check the DIY thread as there are some handy modifications that you can do yourself.

Hey and welcome to Ozliberty,

nice first car, series 1 representin!!

good to see you have started early like i did, being 17 myself i found the light in the Liberty scene. rather then follow the crowd towards wrx's and skyrines.

ask as much questions you want, but to avoid getting flamed always use the search button;)

as for the exhuast, go down to your local exhuast shop and ask them how much a 2.25 inch cat-back system with a sports muffler will cost you.

enjoy the forums

Welcome, great car for the price, look for a set of 16" WRX mags & you'll be laughing in the looks department straight away, check on rexnet, good place to find cheap wheels even if there are a lot of tools on there.

Welsome,
Go handling first.  If you like the car then you might want to convert to turbo RS stylez, in which case the exhaust system will be useless.

If you do decide to keep it NA then you don't want to go any larger than 2.25" for the exhaust otherwise it'll sound like a wet fart.

For an exhaust just go to your local places and shop around.  S&J know their stuff, but mainly work on WRXs and Lancers, that and they charge a packetload for what will only give you marginal gain over what your local can do.  They do know their stuff, but they also charge for it and they aren't really interested in Liberty drivers.

Also look into a set of extractors i you want to keep it NA, but as far as perfromance mods go, you will reap little reward for your hard earned $$ by staying with an NA.
