New Clutch for MY05 3.0R spec B

  Top of Page

G'day Guys/Gals,
I got a price from Subaru for a new clutch kit for my 3.0rb 2005. Approx $900+
I bought a workshop manual from the US because I was convinced by a friend I could buy aftermarket parts cheaper.
Unfortunately the US manual has nothing about the 3.0rb transmission so I couldn't confirm details of the clutch.
I've been told and read in a number of places that this car shares the same 6 speed transmission (so I assume the same clutch) as the WRX Sti of that year.
I'm hoping this clutch kit I found on eBay Approx $300 will do the trick

If anyone is able to tell me whether I'm on the right track? I'd be stoked big_smile
Thanks Dan

The 6 speed gearbox is the same, but that's all I can tell you. Let us know if you find out the answer.

Thanks BJspecB, I rang a Subaru parts bloke who gave me the information without questioning why I wanted to know. It turns out the WRX STi clutch is a different part number. I guess it makes sense as you'd expect the 3.0R-B would have a different flywheel to the 2.5 Turbo. I can't find any aftermarket clutches online under Liberty or Legacy searches so I'll go with Subaru genuine. They weren't quite as pricey as I remember $715 for the kit. It is tempting to lighten the flywheel and put a more heavy duty clutch in it but I think it will impact driveability too much and make it harder to sell the car when it comes time Cheers smile

Subaru often use different part numbers for the exact same part between STi and other models. Do you know what a clutch slave cylinder looks like?

G'day XoN,
Thanks for that
I see the part numbers are fairly close but but not identical.
I've decided I'm not going to chance freighting a part from the US to risk it being wrong, while the car is sitting around in pieces.
Why do you ask about the slave cylinder? Looks like a cross between a shock absorber and spray painters gun?
Cheers Dan

Becuase in earlier models the biggest difference between turbo and non-turbo clutches was that the turbo gearboxes used a pull clutch setup, while the non-turbos used a push style clutch. Aside from that, the friction disk itself was very similar.

If you're in doubt, have a look at the Exedy replacement part numbers. The 3.0R-b clutch shares the same code as the 2L GDB STi, so clutches to suit 2001 - 2004 STi's would fit.
That only applies for AUDM cars though, the US clutches may be different.

Thanks Again XoN,
You know your topic!
I'll still be going with Subaru genuine but the information I've got is appreciated.
I'm new to this forum stuff, what's the deal with karma & how do you get it or pass it on?
Cheers
Dan
