New B4 owner and Proud

  Top of Page

Hi im the proud new owner of a my03 liberty B4. Mine is automatic. So far i have been really happy with the car, have not noticed any pinging and the valley of death, well i dont think there really is one on mine so i guess im kinda lucky. It goes pretty well, but im lookin at puttin another couple of grand into the perfrormance side of things. Can anyone reccomend what i should do? Im crossed between two lines of thinking, whether to upgrade the air induction plus exhaust, or to upgrade the computer (ecutek 2). Im reading mixed responses about the computer upgrades like one guy sayin he only got 9 kw, then other guys saying they are getting 25-30 kw. Whats the real deal with this ecutek 2 upgrade? I know the s and j website in Adelaide quote an extra 30 kw after the tuning but can these figures be taken seriously. Can anyone who has an auto my03 B4 and has done this upgrade please post me some feedback on what to expect from performance as that would be much appreciated. Thank again Peace.

Hey bud,
I have an auto MY03 B4 also & Im in the same situation as you. think I will go the ecutek route, its just so damn expensive for a tune! Dont know of many others that are good or have experiance with the tt. Know S&J will do a top job, its just convincing the mrs the price is worth it! Ive done an upgraded tmic, 3" exhaust & cold air intake. So far so good but still need lots more lol....regards Jon

Yeah i know it is expensive but it seems most people reccomend it so i think im gonna give it a go. I have not done anything yet to mine as i bought it stock about 2 months ago with 3 years dealership warranty still left on it so i do not wanna void it. Mine goes pretty well and most people who i take in it ask how i have modified it and i just tell them its stock unless the previous owner did a stage one tune on it...? Anyways let me know how you go and keep me posted if you go ahead with the tune. Regards

Welcome n congratz on the purchase mate.

Not sure what the weather is down in SA but if car doesn't ping or have VOD, ur one lucky b@stard mate. smile  Its 37 here today so not looking forward to it..... As for VoD, in stock tune, i'm sure its lurky somewhere unfortunately. In the auto, gearshift at 4500rpm'ish and i'm sure you'll feel it....

As for Tek, thats an arguementative issue and i'm sure you'll hear about it soon in future posts.  Some have done Tek and the results are great whereas others opt for an aftermarket ECU for around the same $$.  If you opt for Tek, so long as you know its locked (unless thats changed) and others cannot play with the maps.

Hope you continue enjoying the car mate.  I'm sure you'll find (and get) plenty of ideas of how to improve the car in all aspects.

Kev.

Well done on the new car mate, my last car was a 02 B4 manual but i use to get the vod and pinging aswell so yes you are very lucky. I put a turbo's back exhaust on it and i noticed a big difference. It gave it a nice turbo whistle too. The ecutek was definitely on the top of my list though...

gday kev thanks for the reply. yeah im lovin the car at the moment one of the best rides ive ever had. Its smooth reasonably powerful and pretty luxurious so i agree with the title the B4 owns as grand tourer. As for the VOD the more i drive the car now the more i notice it. Your to right, at around 4,500 gear changes the car just holds back until boost comes on strong again witha nice rush. The weather over here in Adelaide is very hot at the moment, in fact we had 41 degrees today. I have noticed the car does loose lots of balls when its fairly warm, im not sure if thats the case with all turbos but it almost feels like a completely different car.  Ill prob go for the tek when i save a few more cookies and hopefully a lot of these problems can be erradicated.... Regards Dom.
