New 3.0R-B Spec Owner

  Top of Page

Ive recently just stepped into a MY05 3.0R-B Spec. Coming from a 200kw at the wheels Classic WRX, I find the B Spec a bit lacking in the power department. In saying that, however, Im fairly impressed with the ride quality, handling and performance the B Spec has.

I am looking at changing the rims or even painting the stock ones a darker grey similar to that on the Tuned By STi models. Can anyone give me some pictures or point me in the direction of some of MY05's with wheel upgrades and/or painted rims?

Also, the sound of the revving 3 litre is very pleasant and I wouldnt mind amplifying it a bit. What effect does changing the rear mufflers to straight through units and retaining the stock tips have?

Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers,
Glenn

Extractors and an aftermarket muffler set will help you out. Just check eBay or better still your local exhaust shop.

Feel free to post back, as I noticed you need your posts count up. And check out your areas thread, there's a few meet an greets happening soon. Also search for info as I believe the exhaust question may have been asked a few times.

Other than that, welcome and have fun. By the way what model Rex was it? Good to see you come back to Subaru again.

Thanks Nick. I had a MY98 Club Spec Evo2. They weigh in at 1225kg, so 200kw at the wheels made it an exhilerating car to drive! I know I wont get the same performance from a N/A Liberty, but the comfort factor is so much better...compromises!

I will do some searching through here and also have a chat to my mate about the exhaust...he is a genius when it comes to exhaust systems. I may end up with something very unique. The trouble is, I dont want a boomy (ie Excel with 4" Cannon) sounding exhaust. I want something that is just audible over the stock sound with no drone or boomy...if you get what I mean.

Welcome to OzLiberty mate.

I had my '08 WRX rims powdercoated charcoal metallic like the STi liberty color.

You can also get them 2 packed.

What did the powder coating cost you? Im thinking of going the same way with the stock B Spec rims. When I first started looking at the B Specs I wasnt too thrilled with the style of the rims, but since then they have grown on me and I now think they look fairly classy. I reckon if they were powdercoated/painted in that Anthracite type colour, they would look pretty darn good.

Thanks Lance...good to hear from a familiar face/voice/keyboard! Yeah, I do miss the Rex (saw it today, in fact), but one must move on every now and then. As mentioned, the comfort and ride of the B Spec is fantastic and the 3 litre does have more pull below 3000rpm than the Rexy...but after 3000rpm when the VF35 kicked in, well its chalk and cheese.

Im going to try and stay away form the mod bug with the B Spec. Im thinking some new 19's and possibly some minor exhaust work just release some 3 litre boxer growl (these engines sound fantastic when revved)...but that will be it. I spent around $30k on Rexy mods including gearbox and engine rebuilds. At least I know the 6 speed in the B Spec is up to the task!

We will have to catch up again soon so I can show off the new car!

Yeah, Im pretty sure they are 318mm fronts and 290mm rear. Whatever they are, they pull it up pretty good.

Lance, as for the rest of your suggestions...please dont encourage me!
