my08 gt spec b tuned by sti, s402 conversion

  Top of Page

I am looking to start a exterior reworking of my car to look like a S402, i'm not very technically savvy so.. i would appreciate any help and comments i can get here....

here are some things i have identified that i will need.

1) BBS STi S402 Rims

I read up a bit on that on the below threads but the issues i can see are these :

Treads are wider on these 19 inch Rims, this is not an issue on the s402 because of its wider fenders (which i cannot get without a VIN), so i rkn i will have to get the fenders flared out, i dont know if i would like to reproduce the vents... putting holes in my car does not appeal to me hahaha..... what do u guys rkn?

the second issues is can i just bolt the rims on to the car with no issues, ( spacers required? i dont think so... but.. can anyone confirm if these rims will fit directly?)

http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118278

http://japanparts.com/db/partslist.p...ey=107-091-001

2) 6 pot brembo front 4 pot rear

anyone know if they can actually source the STi badged calipers? i can get the stock brembo 6 pots tho direct from brembo as a kit with the pads, although they are around the 4-5k mark, thats for 2 6 pot calipers and discs and brakes, will i be able to put my existing 4 pot brembos to the rear? or just just leave the rear set up ( brembo 2 pot ) as it is now?

3) Rear windscreen with wipers

I think i can source these from jp or the us without much issues, anyone has experience fitting these in australia?

Is there anything else that u guys will think i need to do the conversion or any advice or comments?

George just keep the car the same, its unique enough, dont waste your coin on 6pot, you already have brembos....oh and i still want your wheels if you do decide to do the conversion big_smile

no i didnt win the lottery =P i wish i did then i'd just bloody sneak import a s402 in =P

i did alot of research in the last few days re: this

if u guys dont mind can refer to another thread here
http://forum.liberty.asn.au/viewtopic.p … amp;t=6336

i think the biggest issue i have is that the BBS STi rims wont fit directly and i am still dubious about fitting 235 treads on re: clearance..

i am also researching some performance mods, am currently awaiting AVO's reply and also seeing Viks mechanic too...

To say any brakes is overkill is nonsense. If you can fit (and afford) 6 pots put 6 pots on.
Re: clearance - to me it doesn't look like the rear guards are flared at all on the s402. This is just going off a few marketing pics but the panel looks pretty straight up and down. If you buy them and they don't end up fitting you could always source some flared panels wink

extra pots just adds fade resistance...

edit: i do understand that they can also accomodate a larger pad area, and thus, more braking surface...

but, asif he'll need more than 4 pots...

i don't know of anyone who could or would call brembos inadequate

I'm not saying they're inadequate by any means, what I'm saying is you can never have good enough brakes wink
Extra pistons give you more than just fade resistance, they will also give you a larger and further-spread area of force.

well i just got back to melb from syd lol.

i think no one seems to know if the bbs sti rims are 5x114.3 or 5x100, i can get replica ones apparently that are 5x100 but i dont see WHY the s402 would run 5x114 considering its based on the legacy GT mostly?

japanparts: s402 rims, says they are 5x100, doesnt mention anything about whether its 235 or 225, i know the s402 runs on 235, i dont think theere will be an issue with the rear guards, ifs more the font guards at full lock...

its the front fenders that i am worried about, everywhere i read review about s402 says they have specially flared fenders/guards....  and the ACTUAL real ones cant be ordered without a VIN..

i'm so confused lol !!

Ash: if i do end up switching sure =P u got first dibs if i'm selling haha smile

MY08 Liberty GT Spec B - Tuned by STi

Late model (I think 2003+?) STis run 5x114.3 with brembos and an r180 diff on some models. Subaru might have used the 114 hubs to save costs so they could run the r180 - I'd be surprised if the s402 had an r160.
Shoot japanparts an email and ask what size tyres those rims should run, that will tell you whether they're genuine s402 rims or if they're replicas I guess.
As for the flared fenders, you could watch Import Monster - if you're lucky a set might come up for auction.

You can get the genuine article rims from STi Japan through Import monster - When I can afford it, I'll be getting a set of genuine S401 18" rims this way. About 1100 each rim, which makes a very expensive set, but they aren't ADM sti rims, and they fit brembos...
I would think they will only be 19x8.5, possibly even 19x8. There should be no issues fitting 225's to 8 inch wide rims, although they do look a bit strange.
Curiousity, what do the tuned by sti's have as standard tyre size? 225 or 235?

XoN: the 5x114.3 started at the release of the 06 sti's, so there is every possibility that the rims may be the updated stud pattern.

You could always get the gaurds flared by a crash shop, would be a lot easier than sourcing the genuine article, as its not only the VIN number you need, its also the certificate of registration showing you are the registered owner of the vehicle... I tried to get some genuine 401 parts last month...they said no sad

Rear wiper assembly could be sourced through import monster or japan parts, and probably a few other places, but this should not be too hard. Making it work however, will require an auto elecy, as getting the loom and control gear for this could be expensive.

Brembos - If you can afford them, do it. Be aware, the standard tuned by sti rims may not fit over them. I don't know for sure, but it wouldn't suprise me. Might be worth checking this out.

Other than this, we cant forget the change of paint colour! WR Blue for the win!

If I remember, I'll check my listings of parts for the sti legacy's and put up a listing of all the changes between the go fast legacy and the 402 legacy. (EDIT: these will have descriptions and US STi part numbers as well)

Hope this info helps.

Cheers,
Ben
