My RS brings all the boys to the yard

  Top of Page

That's right, chucked a boost guage on my rs expecting it to read maybe 7-9 psi,but no it gets to 12...gradually aswell...seems sooo slow for 12psi...wish it would boost to 12psi quicker too, not so damn gradually...any thoughts?

deff no leaks, just the wat the liberty is set up from factory, deliberately tuned to be a gradual boost, but i dnt want gradual, i want wrx type boost, strait to 12psi and stay there! a tuning thing do you think?

a more free flowing exhaust would help

yep the combination of the very restrictive exhaust, mated with the stock VF12, which is quite a laggy turbo, will give you the performance that you're experiencing.

jump onto RSLC and read all of this thread http://www.rslibertyclub.org/forums/sho … hp?t=46419
it's a step by step guide on how to reliably get more power and better performance from your RS

basically, free up the intake and exhaust (dump-pipe especially), add a good electronic boost controller for a few extra PSI

You want to control your boost so it builds quicker? Hmmmmm if only there was a device that would control boost........

sounds like a flowy exhaust and a ebc + a tune is the solution to my problem...

i spoke to 3 different dyno tuners and described my problem, they all alluded to the fact that there may be a leak in the line to my waste gate actuator, they suggested that it should be hitting peak boost (10psi) at 3000rpm. at the moment im reaching 4psi at 3000rpm and not hitting peak boost until 4500rpm...thoughts??

well given this

assuming you have physically removed and inspected every single vacuum hose and every rubber/ silicone joiner in the system (including the ones between the turbo and IC) then that's not your problem.
BUT if you haven't checked them all, then check and replace with new lines/ components

also there should be a small retrictor pill in the line coming from the compressor outlet Line1 in the following diagram
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee359/petemacozfoz/subaruinletcobbtuning.jpg

if that restrictor is missing then it will struggle to make boost too

For a cheap and guaranteed solution
jump onto RSLC, read that thread and do what it says until your money runs out.

so am i right in suggesting the consensus is that there is an issue somewhere, not that this is how the rs is meant to perform in its stock form?

Re: My RS brings all the boys to the yard

all depends on the condition of the motor/ turbo/ box/ exhaust/ cat converter/ intake piping, etc, etc

and what gear are you doing these boost vs rpm comparisons in?
you'll need to use 3rd or 4th for an accurate gauge

was tested in 2nd and same results in third gear...the car has been well looked after, but has done 270000ks, so maybe its tired? best way to answer all these questions would be on the dyno yeah?

Re: My RS brings all the boys to the yard

not really.
just a decent reading of engine vacuum can help to diagnose the health of an engine.
also make sure you're using 98RON fuel

but following the steps in that link to free up the intake and exhaust will help her breathe
also do an ECU reset http://www.mrtrally.com.au/performance/howresetecu.htm
this can help to re-set the trims/ learned behaviour of the ECU

car is always run on 98, is running a cold air intake from scoop under front bar strait through to the pod which is boxed and sealed...and the car runs beautifully, a nice progressive pull, but as i say, doesnt hit full boost til 4500 rpm...should i chuck it on the dyno? does it sound like its running normally or does it sound like something is wrong?
