My new (temporary) Toy

  Top of Page

I bought this the other day, MY01, owner was doing 150 down the freeway belching flames & slightly pizzed so it's got a defect notice & blown motor ( new motor had only been in there for 1 day, spiked & melted a piston ) comes with Link, 550 injectors, really good quality front mount, Teins, 3" SS TBE, Apexi pod & AFM holder, 3 Defi guages & controller, nice 18's with 2 brand new pirelli's, shaved boot, STI headlights, Crystal tail lights & nearly all the original bits like, computer, top mount, struts etc, like new on the inside & only 1 tiny ding on the outside, full log books, just done 100k ................................... so just got to find a motor, take the 5%tint off, guages out, & put it back to stock, I'll be selling a lot of the stuff off to offset the cost of the motor & pit inspection, not too bad for 16.5g

And my Daughter bought this last week, LTD Edition with cream leather.

Congrats!.. Both cars look really clean, especially the MY01!!
To me, that is a perfect example of taste and style when it comes to modding.. Looks great!

..So, did you basically buy it to fix it up then on-sell it?

Looks sexy apart from the wanky cannon thats burnt the rear bumper.

Very tasteful apart from that.

Damn that is a REALLY nice looking rex. Very nice find indeed, hope you get it up and running soon :victory:

Why do you say temporary? Are you just getting it back to roadworthy condition and selling it?

Yeah, I've got a few bits & cars to get rid of but this will be the easiest, when I work out prices the Teins which he just spent over1g getting re conditioned with recipts, Defi's & controller, Apexi , Zorst, Link & 550's & Front mount will be going as I'll be putting it back to stock mechanically but keeping it looking the same. then I might drive it for a while & get rid of it but the Gen 2 will be staying.smile

Thats a very nice angle.
Why get rid of the front mount? I think it looks great, really sets the front end off nicely.

Yeah it's a shame to get rid of it but I'll try swapping with someone who has a std bumper or take it out & mesh the gap, it's gotta go over the pits so it has to go pretty much back to stock, I don't want or like the hassles of after market computers & it would be too laggy with the TD04.

I don't like bugeyes, but D-Gen, that's a neat unit.

Cannon, I'm not a fan of, but that car is schmick.

Congrats on the sale. It'll be interesting to see if you change your mind about the Gen 2 after you've driven the rexy for a while....

Re: My new (temporary) Toy

I gave JWS a call but nothing till next week (6 containers landing) I've got a perfect block in the shed so if the crank isn't shagged I'll probably just re build this one, it has a melted piston & well scored No 1 bore, find out on Mon when we split the block, or I can wait 4 - 6 weeks for a brand new short 207 STI block with gaskets for $3,300ish, just gotta weigh up the best options.

I'd say the wheels are knock offs but have no idea of what??? but they are not as heavy as I expected & in perfect condition, it's also got an Apexi BOV, funny looking bullet shaped thing with holes at the end attached to the FM piping, I'd say no expense spared over the years.smile

I've got a 97 WRX/STI Hatch that's been sitting in the drive unfinished & untouched for 2yrs & last year bought my ex g/f a MY99 WRX which I sold a few months ago....Just don't like them, though the inside of this one is much better quality compared to the others "BUT" I like to be able to park my car anywhere without worrying about some tool keying it & if they do it'll match the rest of the scratches & dents that are on it LOL

Yeah I didn't really have a good look till I got it home, it's got the STI gear surround which really sets it off, even the standard in dash 6 stack CD player looks ok.smile

Re: My new (temporary) Toy

This was my old car, prior to Luke (the guy you bought it off).

Had this car in my family since new, and did most of the mods to it (bar ECU and clutch). Was so well looked after, and I spent a fair bit of coin on it. Such an absolulte shame to see it being stripped and used simply for profit.

If I wasn't currently more interested in appreciating assets I'd of bought it back in a second.

BTW its a HKS SSQV blow off valve, a TurboXS FMIC, and the rims are the Volk GT-7 replicas from OzzyTyres. FYI that Cannon is a $700 handmade Halfya F1 muffler....

Yeah, it'll still look much the same but I hate aftermarket computers, the zorst won't pass pits & it melts the rear bumper (it will have a cannon once it's gone over the pits) the guages are illegal where they are and pointless on a standard motor (rather they went to a car that needs them) the tint is 5% so that has to come off & be replaced, the front mount is way too big for a TD04 & as I will be putting the stock computer back in it would be a pig with that & zorst without a flash, the bottom end is totally rooted (you should see the piston & bore) & the heads will have to be re done, the drivers side needs re painting as it has a different coloured front door & the rear has been keyed so selling off the bits should hopefully cover a lot of the cost of getting it legal again & my son may end up buying it off me, one good thing is it will have Spec C pistons in the new motor & low's once it's finished.....But .....It will be legal
P.S. You did a great job on making an ordinary looking car into a really sweet looking piece of machinery. But nobody seemed to want it so I guess you gotta accept what's happening to it.

Haven't yet but will do soon & post it up. EDIT, just took some before I forget & throw it away.
Bakks, from what I understand the later model Subi computers don't re learn like say the one in my V3 STI motor, therefore don't take too kindly to mods, I noticed the highest power run was only 127 atw, it was either the No 1 injector dieing or the computer giving it a huge spike but had it been running properly it wouldn't have died, weird how the thing was re built & tuned before he picked it up & it lasted less than 200 kilometers, you'd think the heads would have fresh machine marks as he was charged for it too but they look pretty grubby to me, something not right but......................well over 4g in newish short motor & re build, your car & license up the crapper in one day.:russian_r
