My new Liberty

  Top of Page

Hey guys A few weeks back I got my first Subaru. Its a 1999 Liberty Gen 3 RX.
I got it for $7.5k with 11 months rego and new tires.

The body is a bit rough on the car, a few of the panels need replacing but apart from that and a few small things like the cruise control doesnt work and the fog lights dont work (which I am going to fix) there isnt to much wrong with it.
It had a recond gearbox put in 40,00km ago and a new clutch.
Its got cross drilled and slotted front rotors..
The guy before me lowered it with kmac springs but left the stock shocks so they are rooted and the rear sway bar was loose which is a bit of a worry..

BUT
so far iv picked up a set of Gen 3 B4 Bilsteins with 40k of wear.
And i got a 23mm Adjustable Whiteline rear swaybar smile.

today I decided to put my Alpine Type R Splits into the front of the car.. But iv come across a problem.. the Speaker spacer/mounts dont fit into the stock holes and i think im going to need to put a bit more of a spacer in there as well because the speakers JUST touch the glass and i can see that getting annoying in the long run..

Welcome buddy.

I'll give u a tip with the speakers seeing as I had the same problem with my kicker splits... Get some 12mm or 16mm MDF and trace the stock spacer and away u go...

Well on the weekend me and my friend got access to his dads car lift so we decided to put the new suspension in the car.. It took the better part of a whole day to do.. But wow it was sooo worth it.. The handling is substantially better and the car doesnt bottom out on everything it comes near.

First thing was to jack the car up and get all the wheels off

Next step was getting all the stock struts and stuff out... which proved to be quite tricky as some of the bolts were stuck in there mighty good.

Big frustration of the day - I slipped while tightening the nut and broke the thread off.. Just had to swap the top off one of the old struts to fix it though.. but was still a bit sad about it.

New Front struts/springs in comparison to the old. The old shock could be pressed in with almost no effort and the spring was loose even without spring compressors...
http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs270.snc1/9734_152796262886_611912886_2795494_5657484_n.jpg

The new rear swaybar smile 2 point adjustable Whiteline 22mm smile.. makes the rear feel so nice now.. The old one was loose and had stuffed bushes.

Had to use spring compressors on the bilsteins to get the rear springs off because they came out of a sedan and would have been to soft.. Found that the car had pretty new king springs in the rear already so i just swapped them around and it was all sweet

What the car looked like the day after the new stuff was in. Hopefully the springs and stuff settle down soon so the car doesnt look so AWD spec haha

Re: My new Liberty

By the way, is anyone interested in some kmac custom springs that were new at the start of the year?? they put the wheels just inside the guard (the guy before my said it cost him $290 for just the front springs and the same again for the rears). Also is anyone interested in some stock B4 Rear springs with about 40k of wear... any offers on these will be considered as I mainly just want to be rid of them.. And i have a stock swaybar and stuff i want to be rid off.

cheers
