My Introduction!

  Top of Page

Well Well!

I guess this is the time when I explain everything about myself and pour out a great big deep and meaningful to all the folks on here... but then you'd probably automatically assume that I'm some weirdo and no one would speak to me tongue

Anyways, first off, a big hello to everyone (and no there won't be any D and M stuff here... not yet anyways lol), you can all read my screen name, but the real name is Nick. You decided what you wanna call me.

My story in short, is that through the kind will of my grandparents, I inherited a 1990 Subaru Liberty GX Wagon in reasonable condition (few bumps and scrapes and dings... to be expected of a car of its age, and the poor maintenance traits that my grandfather adhered to). It has 180K on the clock and nearly bang on interior (i'll upload some pics a bit later) but yeah engine needed a bit of work. In the past few months of me owning it (I haven't got it on the registered yet as I don't sit my license test until February) my dad and I have done a fair bit of work on it.

Most notably being the timing belt (hadn't been done... ever lol), filters all round, brakes, new tyres, new battery and everything else that you'd expect to be done to a car thats been sitting around for 18 months to make it roadworthy and safe as a first car.

So yeah all up so far on parts and other various bits and pieces for the car I've spent about $650 which I guess doesn't work out to be too bad of a price to pay for a first car smile. But yeah rego costs soon (can anyone give me an approximate on how much thats gonna be 6 and 12 months?) and then insurance etc... I was considering just going solely 3rd Party.. as my income of a mere $420 a week doesn't really afford me (partly in fact because I save $250 a week so I can be in a financial position to acquire a newer nicer Gen II  or III and also a Datsun 260Z or a Porsche 944 as a weekend car).

So yeah thats my story.. some advice on what to expect in the way of repairs and stuff in the coming months would be nice and also key things I should watch out for to avoid monetary pitfalls in the form of repairs.

Well yeah thanks for reading, I'm sure I'll be seeing you all around here from time to time, and if ever a cruise is going down in Brisbane, count me in smile.

Cheers,
Nick.

Theres some pics of the car.

As you can no doubt see it definitely needs a good wash, cut and polish and a decent vacuum inside.. normally I'd have done these things, but it's still sitting down in my grandparents garage down the coast as it's not registered and I don't have any garage room for it up here in Brissy!

So yeah it's also completely stock, but other than just new-er wheels (partly because it's missing one of the wheel trims and it looks like trash) and a stereo setup is all I'd really consider.

No point spending a lot of money on a first car when I could be working towards getting a newer, nicer Liberty smile.

So yes all you guys will probably point and laugh at the fact that it's completely stock and all, but hey, it's a first car and reliable transport, which is what I value in a first car.... the fun stuff can come later when I've got the money to get something decent (RS Drools....), which would also mean getting off stupid P Plates - which I don't have until February anyways.

But yeah I'll stop with the late night ramblings now lol.

Comments/Suggestions?... Admirations? (hey, I can be hopeful tongue)

Mate, there is nothing wrong with the gen1's.

They can look very nice indeed when done right.
And a conversion is always an option later!

Welcome mate.

Seems that you have your head screwed on well with the plans for the gen1 and future plans for updating. Good luck with it all.

Go full comp insurance if you can. gets costly if you have a prang on third party and theres a reasonable amount of damage to your car.

Hey welcome, my kids only ever had 3rd party on their first cars, my daughter has been driving for 7yrs & only recently got full comp because she has a WRX, saved her a fortune, because she has a reasonable driving record (no prangs) they offered her a 60% no claim bonus straight up, good luck with the car.
