by seano on 30-08-07 03:28 PM It all started years and years ago, when I was a young fella with a TD cortina. First came the exhaust, then the wheels, the suspension followed by the interior. The amps soon followed and then a respray was in order..... $$$ went quicker than they came in. Its a familiar story that I'm sure many (all) of you know. And it looks like the addiction, after many years of campany cars, no cars, a bicycle, and a hand me down laser (absolutley bullet proof with 400k km on the clock! - thanks Hollos), has come back..... This morning I headed out to Doran Audio in Bankstown for an alarm and immobiliser (postponed til monday). But guess who is just a few doors up from Doran? Bankstown Exhaust...... oh well, I thought, I'll just go in and ask how much an exhaust and air filter will cost..... just ask, yeah right!. Before I know it my wagon is up on the hoist and the two young fellas are grabbing a monza air filter from the shelf and cutting into the standard exhaust pipe!..... Due to $ restrictions I opted for a cat back 2 1/2 system with a stainless steel canon muffler, the boss hands me the muffler and i say it belongs above the fireplace rather than under the car, a truly beautiful piece of engineering. The boss says that he fitted one to a 92 liberty and it sounded like a WRX. and DAMN! One hour and a bit later I'm driving away wondering where my nice quiet sedate family wagon went. The thing sounds like a bloody monsta! The engine is much more free and revs happily to nearly 6g's without any strain (not that I'm going to do that all too often). $500 later the quiet whisper of an exhaust that I knew is a thing of history and now the air filter whirls like a vacuum (which it is!) under the bonnet. A beautiful sound indeed. So there you have it, let the mods begin, god knows that my girlfriend (who owns half the car) is going to kill me! (Pics attached) |

by Soop on 30-08-07 05:41 PM Haha, quick tip tho. Ditch the big ol' black plenum form behind the throttle body, it will help a lot with throttle response. Also as much as you like the sound the pod makes, its probably doing more bad then good, but meh if you like it go for it. |

by seano on 31-08-07 09:54 AM Gotta say that the old wagon has come to life and feels like she has been freed from her life long chains of the standard exhaust. But being a bit on the impulsive side, I should have asked for advice on the exhaust from all you guys before getting it done, but when youre in Bankstown something just gets a hold of you.....! Anyway, I agree with most of you (and my better half) that the milo tin (love it) has to go, its just too much. So, what should go on the back? I actually thought it was a 3" but turns out its 4".... Gotta say though, that the car is so much smoother and has much better power and acceleration than before. Although my better (smarter, more mature) half is not that offended by the sound, it is a bit loud when accelerating up hills...and doing road trips with that constant boooooor is just going to to my head in too. So back to the muffler shop on Monday, any suggestions to replace the rear muff? |
