My B4 dyno charts, needs explanation

  Top of Page

Righto, Leah has sent through the three charts from my dyno run on the weekend.

Looks like I'm leaning out on the initial stages of the secondary turbo, but it's running rich early and late on the graph.

http://www.figmentia.com/images/car/494JUBA.jpg

I'm only getting about 9 psi on the secondary turbo at max kw.

http://www.figmentia.com/images/car/494JUBB.jpg

Apart from that, there's minimal VOD and the torque seems pretty fair for it being a twin turbo (allows for the dip during changeover).

Any suggestions on dealing with the leaning out and the low psi issues?

My graph from that day looks pretty much the same as yours does.  I have the silver Auto B4 that was there...  It's nice to know that it seems to be a consistent trend and not just happening to my car.

But i too would like to know how to fix this issue...

My std run without being modified got 20 more Kw's.. and better air / fuel ratio.. those runs are wierd!

ahuh.. I gathered that when I saw the run being done in 3rd..

that fuel mapping is pretty standard.. hence why B4's suffer from PING!,

But by looking at the map.. im gussing yours is an 01 or 02? the 03 mapping on Kosti's standard auto was heaps different...

get a tune done Geoff.. or get the injectors from a manual B4.. they are the pink sti ones from memory.. 550 cc

03 model, no pinging according to the guys listening to the motor while running the dyno.  Confirmed my own suspicions that mine didn't ping and had minimal VOD, that's only about 250rpm worth according to the graph, sweet FA compared to some.

Why wouldn't the standard injectors I have be the same as a manuals?  They're the stock black 550's that all B4's got AFAIK, never heard anything different in all my web cruising.

BTW Brendan, what boost controller are you using?  As mine is all over the place and Billsy suggested on RSLC that I get one, but I've never seen or heard of anyone having one for a B4 - must be blind in my old age and have just not read the right forum posts.

I'll bring the tools, as your's are sh1t.:Derisive:
I think he's got plenty of injector left at that output Brendan. Are you sure that there are no leaks from the newly installed intake manifold?

WTF do I need tools for, I'm not touching the hunker until I'm gainfully employed again.  My back pocket can't take that kind of hit again wink

And I'm pretty sure there'd be no leak in the intake, I reckon the fact it was changed, and the ECU reset (due to the dead battery being replaced) is the reason I've got the better of the three B4's results on the day.  But hey, that's just me pipe dreaming big_smile

ahh yes.. this explains alot.. I don't have a boost controller, It made my engine and turbo's do all sorts of things.. it couldn't hold constant revs on the free way etc.. and boost spikes! get rid of it!!! I had it set to 17 psi, only for it to hit 23psi when it felt like it..

Mine is done by the tune, the ECU has the boost mapping set high, so the car controls it as per normal.

and with the auto B4.. sorry mate, they are rated at the 440cc... Manuals win again!smile

edit..

I realise you said you want one, not own one.. heheh,

either way steer clear of them.

and I had a GFB (go fast bits) atomic controller.. manual

Well I don't have a boost controller, yet my boost is all over the place.

Wonder what it would cost for Kosti to fly up here wink

What do you mean you need cable?

I meant, unbolt your ecu from your car, post it to kosti, he will put the tune in, and post it back.. ?

Re: My B4 dyno charts, needs explanation

My guess would be that the IAM drops when it starts to lean out hence the drop in boost and the AFR.  The standard maps are designed to run rich for safety reasons if the IAM drops low and also it cuts boost back to between 5 and 8.

Full on limp mode cuts the boost to 5psi,  but i think if it get to 6 or 7 IAM then your looking around 8psi boost and rich fuel ratio.

Looks like your car saved itself from pinging on the secondary turbo as these cars are known for not gettin enough fuel when it needs it most.

Thats my thoughts anyway
