My 98 Rx (with new head gasket!)

  Top of Page

Just a lil' update on my 98 RX. Was indeed a leaky head gasket. Now she is flying. Had the heads reco'd and machined. Thankfully no cracks. Tested v.well and little signs of bottom end wear. Not bad for 200k km....Now She goes like a million bucks. instead of looking at the used car section of the battlers bible and Drive.com.au I'm spending my hours looking at parts and accessories. I reckon in a few years It'll be up for an engine swap with boost.

Cheers.

Very nice and neat wagon you have there seano.

I'm glad you have the problem solved. Did you have both headgaskets done? Or one bank?

Those roof cross bars... you want to part with them? PM if you're keen smile

Had both heads machined with new valves and seals. Both gaskets replaced. I found the car only after 4 weeks of looking, the only annoying thing was that it had 200k km (and a blown head gasket). $1500 to fix so car was still under 10 and a half g's. Beautiful condition with new clutch, radiator and brakes all round. Plus sheeps skin front covers! Yee Haa. i'm actually glad I've had the engine apart as now I know that its okay and my mechanic (a great fella in Ermington in Syds if anyone needs one!) reckons it is in top cond. The car was bought from a mechanic in Canberra, his brother owned it since new. Full service history and not a rattle to be heard anywhere.

Sorry mate, but the cross bars are staying on, and so is the tennis ball....

you didn't happen to buy this wagon on ebay by any chance? I vaguely remember seeing a car like this over a year ago, same colour, from canberra..

Sweet looking wagon mate and glad to hear it's going good!  Does that mech specialise in subaru?  What about turbos?  What about twins?  Sweet FA people know them well enough..  too many wrx mechanics posing as subaru specialists..  then again you probably don't care!  wink

Really like the rear of your wags.. HOT A$$ :new_russi

Not sure if the car was posted a while ago on ebay. Dont think so though, was sold due to new car purchase. The mechanic who looked at the liberty is Greg and he is a gun, I'm telling ya. His number is 0411869438. And he owns his own shop in Ermington. I know him through my old flat mate and he specialises in mini's and BMW's (he races the mini's), and now Subaru's. I rang him about the car when it had problems and he had a tow truck mate of his around to my house within an hour (at 8pm!) and had the heads off and reco'd and back together again under a week. The car is runnning perfectly now....I couldn't recommend him enough.
