Moving to oz

  Top of Page

Hey all. I recently had a chat with a pilot who was in my position about a year ago. That is, just got his CPL, and was having NO luck whatsoever getting a job in NZ. Well, it seems that Australia certainly is the place to be if you want to start your flying career. Unlike in NZ where we have far too many green pilots, and bugger all jobs, apparently he was getting job offers left right and centre!

So yeah, time to pack up and pay you lot a visit, this is certainly not the first time i've been told i need to move to oz to further my career. I'm real sorry to bother you guy's with newb questions, but do you think you could point me to where you guy's buy your cars and other useful sites/threads? I doubt i'll be modifying come to think of it, i do not wish to give up my VF39 powered GTB, soo will probably be getting a liberty LX or something (used to own one here, bloody mean cars)

I have considered importing the BG GTB actually, but i don't know about the costs or rules regarding it. As mentioned, it's... er... slightly modified, and probably best i leave it in NZ till I return.

Cheers smile

Hey buddy welcome. To bring our car over you will need to be applying for Australian residence. Check out the goverment website. What type of aircraft do you fly? I work for Qantas not as a pilot but move there planes around and Pushbacks .

yeah it all seems a bit tricky. and i don't know if i'll be able to bring the car back onto the road in NZ either, cause of the utterly stupid new rules. And i fly cessna's mate, nothing glamourous just yet wink

Bring the car. You'll never get anything here that good for the money, and because it's a personal import it should be easy.
As long as you've had it for over 12 months in NZ you should be fine. When you want to go home sell it over here and get good money for it.

Interestingly its cheaper to ship a car from Japan than to have a car shipped from New Zealand.

If i were you, think about how much you love your car before you take the plunge.

Its possible it could be imported as either a Personal Import or a private use vehicle which will have to return to New Zealand at some stage. If your looking at importing it as a personal import, you will need to have had the car registered in your name for a period of 12 months to qualify.

What are the new rules in New Zealand?

hey mate,

i work for Hawker Pacific and mate the amount of people there are at these flying schools near my work is amazing. about 90% are indian. we had 1 person crash a small plane on Monday at bankstown Airport. I spoke to one the other day and they are all studying to be pilots but said the demand for pilots is not as much as it was before. Maybe you should speak to a few more people before you make a move...
