motoring forums.. where is the love

  Top of Page

hey trendsetters, just coming to you guys with an observation.

now dont get me wrong, im not posting this up to start a war, or to stir up the whores amongst us, but im purely speaking out loud, and opening a discussion.

but basically, where has the love gone from forums... im not directing this to this forum, or any liberty forum for that matter, but car forums in general. i know alot of you are members of more than one forum here, so im hoping that its you guys that back me up here, or at least understand me.

basically i have noticed of late, that they are "generally" becoming a nannas meeting, where women meet up ( in the most un sexist way ) and ramble on about nothing. ive noticed whores are around like termites, burrowing thier way through threads and ruining the fun for those who ask genuine questions, or have legitimate reasons for posting, questioning or commenting. and hey i will be the first to admit, ive done my fair share of whoring... so dont think im discluding myself.... but i know when to stop, and when pushing someone is enough

moderators are doing nothing cept taking sides, and showing favourtism towards friends/alliances and not giving the noobs or the "justified" a fair go. not to mention, keeping within thier "groups" and "buddies" and ive just noticed that alot of people are left with bitter tastes in thier mouths and having no intrest in meet ups, gatherings, or even participation in the forums full stop..
which is the real shame, cause at the end of the day, correct me if im wrong, but everyone participating in the forums has the common intrest for whatever they have subscribed to the forums in the first place.

again im not coming on here posting this to start issues, im just after the feedback and non whore replies to see if i am the only one that thinks this. and again im not directing this to anyone in particular, or any forum in particular, so please mods that are reading this, dont take offense.

i just want the love to come back to the forums, and everyone to get along and be the apparent mature adults we are here, and treat forums as that.. for anyone to come in, noobs included, and not feel as tho they are out of place for asking what to others may seem a dumb question.

At the end of the day, if anyone has a problem with this post, please PM me, if i have offended anyone, or anyone is suggesting i am implying them i apologise and i will emphasise that it is not my intention and it is not directed at anyone in particular.

im going to post this in several forums, as i want to get the best coverage on this, and get some feedback on it, and am interested to see what people think...

ok end of rant. peace out...

Kurt, brother, I feel your pain but you'll have to take a step back and realise that this isn't a perfect world.  There will always be ****fights on any open forum. Thats just something yourself, myself, and every other user must accept. I appreciate the fact that your wanting to share the word of love and peace to these forums but in all honesty brother, its a lost cause.

Me thinks we need to catch up for a few beverages sometime soon.

ha ha mate dont get me wrong, i dont want to go along and put flowers in everyones smoking guns, proclaiming peace and tranquility, but people are given jobs, ie mods, etc, why are they given this role for a start, why are they not exercising this role with a hint of professionalism and moderating the forums to keep at least a decent portion of people happy...

ok now im just sounding like a sooking child.. lol...

Because when the mods do raise their fists, the community fights back saying "that was uncalled for" and "that was too harsh".

I'm in the same boat at work Kurt. Soon as you step up and become a supervisor or a moderator in this case, you assume the title of "One of them".

I think that's true also, there's a very "us and them" attitude towards mods...in any forum, not just this one...

In any forum the people are always changing. What once you thought was important now doesnt seem very so and forums ride that peak and valleys like anything. When i first joined the wrx club they had 700 financial members and now thats down to 450.

People grow up change views change cars have family get married get divorced and so on.

Where once i was lucky to have a car and my first car was a 82 "S" pack ford laser red 2 door 5sp twin carb car kids of today are getting Libs and Fozz's so the demographics change constantly.

Like anything they evolve and change

As for mods and admins .... you are farked either way you are a karnt if you do this and a karnt if you didnt do that. It is once of the most unrewarding selfless VOLUNTEER role anyone could ever have.

fairness amongst mods i think is the issues... whats good for the noobs, right through to those who spend most heart beats on forums should all come under the same umbrella..

but hey at the end of the day, if someone has suggestions as to how it can be resolved, or what advice may be given or taken on board, throw it out there, maybe more filters, harsher rules by mods, concrete rules that are adhered to by ALL. i dont know, just throwing it out there

Basicly people are pussys and dont want to cruise anymore...instead they would rather post dribble on the internet.

Re: motoring forums.. where is the love

well i know for a fact, that within the suby confines, jarrod goes out of his way to organise meet ups, gathers and certainly cruises.. not to steal the credit away from people like rhys and nicko, and other boys that realise that you can only cruise so much before you feel as tho your on a race track just doing laps.

im all for jumpin in on the organisation, but as im sure a few of the boys will back me up on here, you cant please everyone, weather it be a harmless dig at your efforts, or someone just finding it boring as bat ****..

at the end of the day, its more than just the location that makes these events, weather they be cruises, dinners, photo shoots, dyno days, etc etc. and im of the opinion, if you dont like it, or you can suggest a polite, and i do emphasise polite, way of putting your suggestion fwd, then by all means throw it out there...

i guess the other options are either plan something your self, and give the regular guys a break,

or go with b4boys option and sit at home on the net like a fly and complain your bored...

Well, having been on both sides of the Mod fence I can assure you it isn't easy sad

As a Mod, whatever you do is wrong ...  If you enforce the rules, you're a dick, and if you let everyone run riot you're weak and spineless.

It really is impossible to please everyone, or to sit on the fence..

As far as Noobs go, there are so many trolls and stirrers around that it is hard not to view anyone that doesn't have a track record as an asset to a forum.

Clear simple rules are a really good start, for sure.

Cheers,
Dave

yeah very fair call mate, dont get me wrong, i can appreicate the filtration methods  you guys have to go through, and what you have said i guess is a very general way of looking at mods. however how each person interprets thier responsibility as mods, or how many mods there are could be the issue.. there are plenty of internal groups among forums and it just seems that there is a mod amongst them all, and if someone who isnt part of the "clink" gets a lil heated with someone who is, guess who will get shown favourtism.

Re: motoring forums.. where is the love

I think you'll find that's the way of the world. If you get into a fight with a cop's mate, how do you think that'll turn out? It's just how it is. It sucks, sure, but it's human nature. Look after your own, it's instinct.

I couldn't agree more with the comments above about "if you act you're a dick, if you don't you're spineless". I admin a couple of other forums, one of which is pretty large and every school holidays become rife with stupidity, and generally speaking the people that make the most noise about being moderated are the ones that deserve it most. The kind of person who will post to deliberately cause a ****fight for their own amusement is likely to be the person who gets indignant about it when you pull them up. Look at the difference in behaviour when a police officer confronts someone who knows that they are guilty.

People don't like being told "no", particularly if it's from someone who's perceived to be in an "unfair" position of authority. Some will be submissive, some will rebel, others will argue their viewpoint to eternity. The thing they have in common though is that they will nearly always complain about it.

Short of changing the brain chemistry of every person on the planet, it's just not going to change.

Hi,

First off, there are perks to the mod job - I get to scan all the porn spam before I delete it.

Ace fun, especially in a professional work environment with people looking over my shoulder.

big_smile

As for the issue of love. The love will only come from face to face meets, get people to meets, meet people, enjoy the company and stem friendships from the already common ground shared in a love of cars. From here, tolerance will spread like an STD through a third world country.

There are a couple of guys in WA that make it along to most every meet - but by a couple, I mean two.

Cheers,
Nik

lol good work nik.. lol..

now are you only a state rep? in saying that i dont mean to down grade your status by saying "only" im just wondering that if you have as much powa as the other mods in the forum, or jsut control over the state you have been allocated...

if not, are there too many fingers in the pie??

too many opinions on what is right and wrong etc?? hence some of the conflict etc?

Hi,

Haha, don't sweat bro, I don't do this for status!

I'm state rep, but have the same powers as all the other mods, in that I can edit/delete in all sections, ban you if you keep belittling me, etc. etc. None of us want to be an umpire to petty squabbles.

My main role is to keep the Perth/WA section clean, and keep organising events. Which have been almost monthly since my start in the role.

Average attendance from OzLiberty members is one person.

Cheers,
Nik

Re: motoring forums.. where is the love

I have no alliances, if you post dribble or pick on anyone - noob or not - you get the same treatment as anyone else.

Main task lately hass been the same as others, check out the porn that gets posted before deleting it and banning the user associated.

As for meet ups, well, trying to organise any real/significant interest from people is a bit of a task in itself, you either get people planning other stuff after they say they are interested/will attend (worse yet adding the "I forgot" excuse post event) or people complaining about petrol prices, places to cruise, places to eat etc etc. If you try to broaden the horizons a little and invite other forums etc you get the us and them attitude for whatever reason.

The common attribute to the lack of love is people taking things too seriously.

Well for starters I now live in ACT and when its running it spends its time cruising. Even if its by myself, I just cruise into the mountains.  Everytime someone organises cruises even a month and a half out people just dont show.

Interesting read.
After reading through the first post I expected many varied responses and theories, that seems to be playing out.
But of all the comments made in this thread this is the most suitable response;

Fact: The more people that know each other face to face, the more harmony you will have.
RSLC has a strong social aspect and a good core of people taking part on the forum.
You'll find that pretty much all the agro that occurs is due to faceless members
who are unknown to practically anyone shooting their mouths off.

As for mods - there's good and bad ones just like the rest of the forum demographic.
As a Mod I'm no angel but I try to be fair to all - I'm quite happy to take a verbal tirade and not delete it because if I can give it I should be able to take it as well.

Well there's my 2 cents on a topic with no definitive answer...

I agree. Knowing most of the Canberra boys from RSLC and a few members here too, you don't really want to stir trouble or do dumb ****e.
