Sold the Subaru, replaced it with a Honda.. but all I know is Subaru's! (and Holden V8's of course):secret:

I like the front, not the back. That looks like one pissy little top mount under there...have they released any engine specs?

Looks great for a people mover.
Hopefully they put the turbo desiel motor in it, and then it will be a winner!

Did someone reverse the display model in to a wall at high speed or something? It's just a vertical surface!

Aside from the rear end, I don't think it looks too bad...

Incorrect. The car looks cool, and will turn heads.

The only thing I don't understand is where in the line-up they intend to generate new sales with this car. The Tribeca clearly is their people mover, but as has been stated, all Subaru's are simply too small in the interior to draw people away from something like a Tarago, or Odyssey.

Oh god, this is ****, sooo ****, subaru has thrown its intergrity down the toilet and their designers and engineers have bowed to the pressure of the mainstream (ie toyota oreo, etc) subaru.....you used to be cool, but now, this new look, this shiny ricey ****ty shinny stuff every where (i mean a people mover with a huge tmic scoop...pfffft....) LAME...anyone who says this looks good is either 1) a massive meat cigar smoking ghey...or 2) reasonably disabled....the new evo x...that is cool, the new imprezza, that sir, is shat...and now this...i only hope they redeem themselves within the next few years because the only model that looks remotely attractive is the lib...(and its not far off from having its face mangled by panty sniffing oreo fanboys)

I wouldn't say the Exiga is crap and then call the new EVO 10 cool, that thing is ****ing horrid and doesn't even perform as well as it should.... it has its ass handed to it by the latest STi.....
The idea of a people mover with a bonnet scoop is pretty cool... think about it..... who else really does it?
Just my opinion.

No offence, but I thought this was absolutely hilarious.

The car looks cool, and will be one of the better looking Subaru's ever produced. I have no doubt that in the metal the car will look even better than it does in the photos.

I will go on record now saying I will own one, when I can afford one.

QFT

though I would say that thing looks like an aborted camry (semi defected)

couldn't agree more.

we were looking in my advertising class at uni at why Subaru would go in this direction with the WRX

yes people generally place higher importance on economy over performance nowadays (apparently) but to take a cult car like the WRX, with such a big following and to turn it into a soccer mum rocket... doesn't really make sense...

sad really... they completely ignored a massive loyal market segment...

Hi,

I really don't want to sound like a Subaru spokesperson, and on reflection I am borderline.

But I really like this car, I think it will sell well. I think it will take sales away from the Tribeca, which makes me wonder about the true motivation of it, and whether or not the Tribeca may be phased out completely in a few years time - once the tooling has paid for itself.

This is obviously not a replacement for the WRX, I don't think that's what you were getting at though. What you seem to have forgotten in your assessment of the hatchback WRX is the Subaru heritage. The reason RS Liberty's and WRX's are such a cult classic is because of rally success. Hatchbacks are dominating WRC at the moment - now, people think that there is no way that this has completely swayed the move to a hatchback, sure economy and to be seen to be green would have been a huge factor aswell - but being a 'cult car' is born from racing pedigree, if they want to win on their turf in the WRC, then it's a natural progression to move to a hatchback.

On topic, mark my words when you see an Exiga, you will want one.

Cheers,
Nik

The tribecca is a hideous American invention. I think perhaps the Exiga is Japan taking the reins back by making their own 7 seater instead of putting up with the ugly piece of sh1t that is the tribecca.
If any tribecca fans take offense, tough luck. Go get some eyes.

Re: More Exiga Pics

I've seen the new WRX and Forester in the flesh.

They are slab sided, window framed, pig dog ugly abortions.

Car manufactures may well value economy over performance these days and for good reason.
But do you think Ferrari would make a 440 look like a Daihatsu Mira just so they'd sell a few more units?

Its the same deal with the WRX.
The WRX was what it was because of how it looked and performed.
It was what it was because of the kinds of people that owned and drove them.

Making it appealing to grandma and grandpa is backwards...

The same can be said for the entire Subaru line up.
People have always been attracted to them because they're different.
Because they had an Boxer motor, because they had frame less doors.
Because they had out there aggressive styling.

Making the WRX look like a f*cking Toyota has almost in one strike destroyed what was so appealing about them in the first place.

Re: More Exiga Pics

Hi,

First off, Richo, I would love one. If I were in a financial position to be buying new cars off the lot I would put my name down today for one.

Secondly, X man, you are indeed correct and I would also assume this is Japanese intervention to sway the styling cues back to something more Subaru orientated. Even the Subaru salespersons told me I would be mad to buy a Tribeca, that really shouted to me not to buy one.

Thirdly, Paul, mate I'm sorry but I cannot agree with you for the reasons I have already outlined. The WRX was never popular because of looks - ever. It has never been a good looking car, sure, we may like it but it is not a stylish car by any stretch of the imagination. People haven't been attracted to them because they are 'different', people have been attracted to them because despite looks they offer very real sports car performance for minimal outlay of cash. Yes, you can outrun a 'supercar' in your Subaru.

Do you honestly think if they were slow, and didn't win so many WRC's, that the car would be bought by people attracted to the styling!?

Lastly, nine times out of ten 'the kind of people' that drive WRX's are complete tossers.

To compare Ferrari, a company who has the luxury of actually CHOOSING it's owners, to Subaru or Daihautsu is completely retarded - I'm sorry again, but it just is so I will not validate that comment with a counter.

Cheers,
Nik

Re: More Exiga Pics

My point on the styling issue was, that it isn't a "Beautiful" car.
Nor should they be.
If it wasn't so different to anything else. Why would not all the performance orientated people look towards a Lancer Evo or another Japanese sports car?
Most all of which perform as well if not better. (Speaking of the early model WRX or "Classic")

This may seem  a little odd, but i would make the connection to those who bought an A9X Torana in the 1970's and those who bought the WRX in the mid 1990's. I would believe for much the same reasons.

While I'm at it, this may be getting off-topic but it relates to what Subaru are doing.
You say that people went and bought the WRX because it a true performance car. You are correct. It was.
It was a real sports car.
They're rough as guts, When you hit a bump the car shakes, and you feel it through your arse.
The gears are short, and the steering direct. Your constantly working.
If you made a mistake, it was yours and the car did what ever you told it to do.

So why, 13 years on from the original WRX, has it evolved into a cushy POS it is?
Stability control - What happened to being a sports car?
Leather seats - Because that's really nice for holding you down in the high g-force corners.
Sat Nav - All race cars need that...
Air-con - Wind the bloody window down!

Now I've driven an 1998 model and an 2005 model.
They are two totally different vehicles.
One makes you feel like your really connected to the vehicle. The other makes you feel as if your merely along for the ride.
The later model is more comfortable, but why would you buy one if you wanted comfort?
Why would you buy a WRX if you wanted to travel along and never even notice whats going on outside?
Why does a "Sports" car need  all those bells and whistles?

In the same note as,
Why does a people mover need a massive bonnet scoop, and high powered turbo charged motor?
One would think it would be better off when a larger displacement NA engine which is smooth and easy to drive, which builds large amounts of torque just off idle.
Why does a people mover need to bare any resemblance to a sports car at all?
In the same note as why does a sports car need to bare any resemblance to something your grandmother would drive?

Re: More Exiga Pics

Hi,

The Evo is a competitor of the STi, not the WRX. Price point is the simple answer to your question. As for other Japanese performance cars, I think you'll find there's a crazy little bunch of people that like Skylines.

My point still stands, and you've actually backed me up with your Torana theory.

Win on Sunday, sell on Monday.

This new WRX shape may well be winning on Sundays from now on. Let's hope. The way it is branded as a fashion accessory style car is from Subaru Australia, I am yet to see any Japanese advertising that mirrors the approach SoA have undertaken.

We are digressing from the original topic though, which is the hotness of the Exiga. Hot.

Cheers,
Nik

Win on Sunday, sell on Monday.

So how many people you know, that follow motor sport to that extent, that would want to own something that looks like their mums car?

Exiga looks like an epileptic designer had a fit, forgot what it was he was making and that's what were left with...

Why not just put a H6 in it?
If not to play on the WRX performance linage?

Is it released in japan yet ?? might a display model be @ STI melb  ????

I was at STI docklands on Tuesday this week, as i drove out, i saw a new wrx.
It did not have 4 spot front brakes on it, at the time i thought that's weird.
On my trip home i wondered if the 08 wrx has dropped the 4 spotters.
I checked subi australia web site for details, under the specs section it did not mention 4 spot front brakes.
So do the 08 wrx have 4 spot brakes  ????

I wonder if I saw the new Exiga in the flesh   ???

Hi again Paul,

How many motor sport enthusiasts do I know that would choose a car based on performance figures, instead of body styling...? What? Win on Sunday, sell on Monday isn't a phrase I turned myself. It has been proven for decades to be true.

We can all make hilarious comments about people with diseases designing cars, but it doesn't really help your argument. As for why not a H6, you really are reaching now. Have you driven a 2.5L turbo, very smooth engine. Also, I'm not sure why you don't want them to hint at the WRX's performance heritage? Surely this is a smart thing to do?

I'm curious, what did you want from this car?

Cheers,
Nik

Re: More Exiga Pics

I'm just stumped as to why the kind of person in the market for a people mover is going to want something with a big f*ck off bonnet scoop.

I mean, without wanting to sound like a total arse hole.
There's a good reason nearly all the people movers look relatively the same, I.e: Chrysler voyager, Honda Odyssey etc etc.

Which is what i was getting at about the WRX.
There's a reason sports cars look the way they do, and not like common shopping trolleys.

Body styling is part and parcel with power and performance.

Re: More Exiga Pics

Everyone was wingeing about the Impreza when it first came out, now it's grown on alot of them. This car looks ok, sorta like a shrinky-dink Liberty wagon. And considering a Ford Territory can now come with a scoop, and it's aimed at the soccer mums, I see no problem with this having one.

You have to remember that Subaru's have always looked a bit stranger to normal, and the new Impreza looks nothing like a Corolla, I see a million of each everyday and the Prezza looks hot, even with the ricey tail lights.
