Mazda Destroys $100M Worth Of Cars

  Top of Page

Hi,

CLICK IF YOU'RE UGLY

Sad waste really. Surely a few people are making off with these cars? If I worked at that site, you can be damn sure I'd try my hardest to get a few of these in my garage...

...nothing like driving them like they're stolen.

Cheers,
Nik

wow. I'm having trouble understanding just what was wrong with them? Surely they could have fixed whatever had happened to them?

A huge waste. Its a joke that everyone seems to preach sustainable living, and yet Mazda throws away all the time, money and materials used to make these cars. Not to mention the emissions used in making them.

I would say that this is more damaging then possibly faulty vehicles.

It is a waste , but think of the liability if a component broke due to rust from the sea water and took out several others ...... Not really worth the risk i would say .... wise choice on Mazdas behalf ... and i am sure they would have claimed the loss and expenses of it back anyway ....

Hi,

For sure Phil, that would have been one hell of an insurance claim the shipping line company made!

!

'Tis a shame the wastage though. As a lot of the stock didn't even get wet.

I remember this story. The Cougar Ace.
I read a full report on the actual rescuing of the ship. Read it Here
Really amazing and interesting stuff. Its a long read, so you need a fair bit of time for it. But HIGHLY recommended.

frankly i have a bit of a problem with the wastage going on there
the corporate gain/loss mentality is something of a bother
those cars could have been put to a plethora of other uses such as even the ones he mentioned.
without sounding like a greenpeace, dread lock headed peace pipe smoker the resources put towards assembly should be salvaged - otherwise its a bit like throwing edible food in the bin

from a purely PR related perspective, claim back losses on the cars and recycle the materials for good publicity rather then the 'mazda reputation' bull****..

end rant

Hi,

It's a really tough one isn't it?

Mazda now claim they tried their best to be allowed to even gift the cars to charity type organisations, all their efforts were bungled by the legal reality that if the cars were onsold, Mazda would still be liable for any incidences.

If this is true, I have to commend Mazda for exhausting their options to 'gift' the cars. Which I wouldn't be surprised at, clearly the shipping companies insurance company would have paid the full amount for the vehicles, so being 'out of pocket' was not an issue for them.

Instead of blaming them for the wastage, I have to blame the society of 'stupidity' that we have created for ourselves.

Cheers,
Nik

if insurance paid mazda out, wouldn't they own the cars . then just like every other insurace company try to make money off what's left of them by scraping.
