Manual gearbox

Ok so I have a EJ208 twin turbo motor and have found a 96 5 speed manual gearbox for it but the gearbox came out of a FWD and I have an AWD will it still work?

No. Unless you want a FWD.

You should do some more reading into the requirements of a 6 speed conversion. It's not as easy as slapping the gearbox in and driving away.

I wanted to stick with a 5 speed. I thought it wouldn't work but the guy that is selling it said it would fit hmm how hard is the six speed conversion? I'm in WA tho

hate to state the obvious here but a fwd bear box drives the front wheels. a awd gearbox drives all four wheels. they are two different kinds of gearboxes.

you don't need a 6 speed. put aside around 6 grand all said and done if you do. you need more than just the gearbox to make it work. gearbox, clutch release fork, clutch, flywheel, tail shaft, 6 speed transmission mounts, 6 speed crossmember, 6 speed shift linkage, 6 speed clutch master cylinder, shift knob, rear diff (if you go R180 you'll need new hubs as well) and rear drive shafts. also to consider is getting a DCCD controller.

you should be able to pick up a second hand non turbo 5 speed for a few hundred bucks or a reconditioned one for under a grand

Since you have an auto, you'll also need a pedal box on top of what Aek has already listed.

Your friend was correct, it will fit just fine. There's just a lot of other bits and pieces that need to be changed to match. Physical location generally makes very little difference to this.
