Long Trips in the Lib

  Top of Page

Hey all..

Anyone done any serious trips in there libs?

Im possibly looking at driving up to Hervey Bay in the B4 if jet star cancell the flights.. from syd it's about 17 hours..

Anyone had any issues? does the car like it? being a 4 banger and getting stretched that long?

I remember my commo used to feel weird and loose after a long drive.. maybe cause it was a dinosaur I guess..

I'll stop and egg your house on the way Franky / Soop.:search:

Hi smacktard,

I did a fair few 9 hour trips in the B4, to Albany and back in a day from here. Didn't notice any looseness in the car, the nut behind the wheel can unscrew a bit though.

Cheers,
Nik

I've had the GT-B down to Albury/Wodonga and back a few times. Once was a pretty much straight down and back drive just under 13 hours and she coped really well.

Drove the GT from Noosa to Melbourne when i bought it.

Sat on 120kms/h for 80% of the journey and it didnt miss a beat.

If your car is close to a service, id do it before you go.

Hi,

I'm not exactly devastated about not being able to go to the poofter capital of Australia.

People in WA probably know a fair bit about long trips mate.

I regularly do 5-6 hour trips up the coast from sydney, up around Port and towards coffs, never misses a beat doing that.... actually the engine feels much better after it, like its properly warmed up and ready to go.
When I first got the car I drove from Kempsey to Bathurst for the race Via Sydney to pick up a mate, that was a long drive, Car felt beautiful, was running an FPV GT through the blue mountains (not getting up to stupid speeds) and I had a car stupidly full of gear and 5 people on board and was still able to keep him (his car was semi-loaded) so even after a long drive it still goes nicely big_smile

Hi,

Haha, mate, it will take a bit more than that to rile me up.

I did do 60k in 12 months in my car, she stood up to the punishment just fine. I even theorised that I should sink the boot in as I got closer to home, to flush out any cobwebs that might have started to form after sitting on two and a half for so long.

Knowing you though, you'll have to stop off at every alternative lifestyle man bar along the way - so you shan't be driving for too long, considering where you are.

big_smile

Hi,

Has the car overheated before? I'd think it more likely to overheat during the summer months, in stop start traffic jam type situation.

Weather is on your side.

Go for it. From how much you've been under the pump at work, you need the vacay!

Cheers,
Nik

Unless you drive like a grandma these things can drink bad, Driving a little hastily to keep in front of traffic from here (syd) to Kempsey uses almost 1 full tank for fuel, (roughly 450Km)
but if you put along, dont really overtake too much and sit on or just under the speed limit I have found I can do it using about 3.5 of the lines out of 6 on the fuel gauge so ....7/12ths of a tank to put it badly tongue giving me a range of about 650 - 670Km from 64L

I don't think you should worry about your gearbag too much, or diff for that matter, my diff clunks on take off sometimes (not massive lash just a little) and it still never misses a beat on the HW.., just do your usual water, oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid, gearbox oil checks , inspect underneath the thing to make sure nothing is falling off, check your tyres arnt scrubbing (if they are they will be thrashed on a long trip so best get a wheel alignment and balance if they are not wearing properly). Thats about all I usually do, and try and buy as much fuel as  you can before you get out of the city LOL.... if you are heading up the coast then you may as well take a jar of Vaso to hand to the dude at the servo counter...that way when he reems you it wont hurt as much.

Should be a good drive anyway dude, and have fun

sorry for the lengthy ranting post.

Brendan, don't be a girl. Your car will pi55 it in. You'll actually appreciate your car when you get back home, because it would have gone better than you expected.

I drove from canberra to adelaide in a day without any hassles, and my lib is probably one of the bigger buckets of sh*t out there. Subaru told me I had a knock, under my bonnet gets stupidly hot, a had one of the silicon joins in my FMIC shyt itself and didnt have a single problem going the distance other than blowing out a tyre.

I know mine's NA, but...

I did Esperance to Adelaide in one hit (18 hours), and that was when my knock sensor was playing up. Even with that I had no issues wahtsoever. The lib seems to love long trips. Perhaps vary your speed a little rather than keeping it on cruise all the time, I guess it depends on the traffic.
I've also done Perth to Coral Bay in one hit which was about 12 hours.
My car gets lots of long trips and I have had no problems at all.

Oh my god brendan.

You try to kill your car, screw your engine mounts and bitch about it not being a stupidly oversized, under powed commo - yet you're worried about a little drive.

Suck it up and drive it, you emo.

The Subi will be fine, a long cruise is the best thing for a car.
Well most cars anyway. Yours seems to be pretty good at breaking though lol
