Liberty 3L Turbo????

  Top of Page

Does anyone know of an aftermarket "turbo or supercharger kit" that is bolt on to the 3.0L boxer? Whilst the power delivery of my spec B is awesome, it can be a tad linear, just looking to amp that up some.

There are no "kits" for turbocharging the EZ30. The compression ration is way too high for forced induction.
To turbo the car properly will cost around $30k. This will get you 3-400kw atw.
You could spend half that turbocharging the unopened engine and end up with 200kw atw but I don't think it would be very safe even at very low boost.

It's all or nothing with these engines. A BL/P with 6MT and turbo EZ30 would be a killer street car though.

Sure there would be easier/sane/cheaper ways...

Lower compression... small low boost turbo...

damn that makes life alot harder for EZ30 owners wanting to go the forced induction route! I guess the idea is to just buy one of the turbo ones and leave the 6 alone... BUT, that would be awesome if you decided to do it smile

why the hell does it cost so much!

is it just the high compression it runs? just lots of strengthening required?

i havent seen anything on youtube for a H6 subi engine you might have more luck getting a porche engine to fit! big_smile

All you need is a spacer in the head gaskets. about 6mm space should do. This will create a larger area in the head thus lowering compression. I have seen this method performed in a few different applications. Then compression test and tune.

This would be a top Engine setup!

The Perrin H6 would have to be the best done, but god knows how much it cost http://www.perrinperformance.com/pages/show/32

Fuel injectors, rails, pump and pressure regulator need modifying to become a return type system (EZ30 is somewhere between a return and a returnless system)

Thicker headgaskets are a great idea

Remember that the rods are thin like EJ20 NA ones

Oil supply for the turbo can be got from one of the AVCS soleniods

And the exhaust headers, which should be pretty easy

If you knew, you'd be in a Subaru too.

Hi guys,
Paul Fisher at Pulseracing and I have been wanting to turbo charge my late MY07 3.0RB for a while now.
The boys at Perrin have done a great job and there are indeed several videos of it there is a good cockpit photo - which is a related video of my video - check mine out first:Derisive::
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3haSVYa4Vo
Paul met the Perrin boys at SEMA a few years ago and had a chat about what they did over a beer. There are a few really good write ups on the web: http://www.perrinperformance.com/pages/show/32
We are indeed gonna use low boost pressure turbos as a stage 1 turbocharging and  then reduce the compression and ramp up the boost pressures up to their sweet spots a few months later. Yes you may have noticed I'm talking plural - we are planning a twin turbo setup. With all this we plan to keep costs well down below 15K tops. So,  a full low comp' single turbo setup should not cost nowhere near 30k!!
As far as I know The H6 engine doesn't lend itself easily to thicker gaskets as a means to reduce the compression - you need to seal things off properly as you would with a H4 engine. I'm not sure so don't quote me on this.
We're close to finnishing fabrications - keep an eye on the following website for the project page coming soon.
Thanks for reading this take care and drive safe...

It's been done in Brisbane already. The previous member stating the cost of around $30k happens to know a bit about this particular build.
Don't think its as easy as bolting a low-blow turbo and expecting results. All you'll get is melted 3L H6.

$30k includes fitting a 6MT etc and aftermarket ecu assuming it needs these things.
I have recently quoted on doing a turbo setup on a Gen 4 with factroy fitment H6 and it came in at around $22k. This includes a fully built long engine worth $8k, not a slap on and wait till it blows.

We are going to do a slap on to Miles' new Gen 3 OBK and see how it goes. Vaccine is doing the same to his G3 OBK. They are cheap enough now to have a crack and see what happens. The pistons and rods will limit things but a brutally torquey 200kw atw shouldn't pose a problem.

I don't think a twin turbo setup is practical myself but people do as they please so I won't bother arguing the point.

It's about time a few people had a go at it, I'm surprised the yanks haven't done much with them either.

Very articulate Frank.

Da Mob boss I hope it goes well.  I think you'll kill the engine the moment you attempt to dial in some timing.

Every build I know of that's simply bolted a turbo on has died a nasty death, whether it's an EA, EJ or EZ.

It is possible.  And a lot of work.  But with a great result.

It all comes down to the build.  Would like to see a budget conversion kit, but it would have to contain rods, pistons etc.

Re: Liberty 3L Turbo????

I have been holding high hopes that Subaru will bring out a Tuned By STi with a turbo'd EZ30, or similar boxer 6 cylinder. Any chance of this happening in the near future, ie 2 to 3 years?

Has anyone got any inside info?
