Liberty 2nd to 3rd generation changes?

  Top of Page

Hi, Im just wondering what are the main diffrerences between the 2nd generation libertys and the 3rd gen libertys, I know that the body shapes are different, I want to know if there are any significant changes to the engine, the handling, weight and how many killawatts both engines put out.

any help would be appreciated

your best friend here, this site has all the statistics on both cars in detail on every model.

this is what i know:

gen3 are heavier, but have wider tires, sit 5cm higher (can fix that with springs)

gen2 s1 came in 2.2L
gen2 series2 came in 2.2L (LX, GX) and 2.5L (RX)

gen3 came in 2L (gx, lx) gutless, and 2.5L RX

check that as i own a gen2 so my gen3 stats may be sketchy.

to add gen 2 RX engines have DOHC where as the 3rd generation came out with the 2.5 SOHC

the 2nd generation Rx occasionally blow their head gaskets.

but the 2nd gen RX looks x100 time better.

just to add, gen2 2.5L DOHC and gen3 2.5L SOHC have the same power, and the head gasket issue is mainly an american problem, theire head gaskets are produced over there and ours are from J-land, so no problem for you.

Uhh, no. They blow gaskets nearly as much as Gen 2's actually.

Big differences are in the rear suspension, Gen 2 is a simple lateral link and trailing arm arrangement where Gen 3 is a multilink setup that is a lot more complex.

I think you'll find head gasket problems are just as frequent here.
There's very few Gen2 RX's getting around with the original gaskets in tact.

Yeah not so sure a Gen3 looks like a busted arsehole:beee:

Had a Gen 2 RX looked nice lowered with a set of rims, Now have a Gen 3 RX and have always loved them since my mate had his one sitting real low with a big set of wheels....

I think they both look great in different ways....
