just got me a liberty!!

  Top of Page

I just bought myself a 92 GX fwd. I am absolutely rapped. its basically my 1st car (me and the girlfriend shared a 92 camry, but i didn't know anything about cars, or care at the time. I'm counting this as my 1st tongue) I know you probably all think i'm crazy for getting fwd, but i had my heart set on a suby, and this was in my price range.

I got it particularly cheap, from a dealer. the thing is, the clutch is very close to knackered. mainly the reason i got it so cheap, the dealership i got it from deals in newer more expensive cars, they didn't think it was worth fixing for them. (it probably isn't quite worth fixing at all, but this car is going to be a bit iof a project for me, introducing me to the wonderful world of cars)

So basically, i need alot of info on how this works.... i've read around here and it seems pretty obvious that a new clutch isn't something i can install with my motorhead friends. i'll need to find a mechanic to do it. can anyone recomend a good mechanic in melbourne? how much should i expect this to cost? i know it isn't going to be cheap, but i saved about $1500 on the car because of the faulty clutch. so far i havn't found anything else wrong with the car, low KMs (176k) full service books, i previous (65 yo) owner etc. the driver's side sunviser is broken, as expected, but it seems to just be that and the clutch wrong.

So who is the best mechanic for it? (I live in heidelberg melbourne) where do i buy a clutch, or will the mechanic find it for me? is there other stuff i should know as a brand new car/liberty owner?

thanks guys!

Just got quoted $860 for new clutch, I assume for a standard clutch, i figure i had better use this opertunity to upgrade a bit to a bigger and better clutch big_smile

[edit] wow. here i am, a newbie, spelling words, in full, not taking the usual shortcuts you find with regular newb's, (e.g. ur, iv, etc..) and you feel compelled to point out and pick on the one gramatical error in my post. talk about anal!! tongue

I nearly spelled it wrapped, but i KNEW that was wrong tongue

so back to the clutch thing quickly, (i know its not really the right section for this, but this particular issue is my introduction to the site, just for a way of relating it to the introductions topic tongue)

I figure i should go with an upgraded clutch, as it should be a while before i HAVE to replace the clutch again. How does this work? what kind of clutch should i put in it? i don't want to go too expencive... just better...
