joining the ranks of boxer drivers......

  Top of Page

Most with an interest (online) in commodores or Brocks would know of me.  I am a fanatic, a committee member of the HDT Owner's Club of NSW, as well as concourse judge of HDTs.
I write the occasional little segment for Street Commodores magazine too.

So what am I doing here?

Well I had and XR6 as a company car, before it was rudely written off, putting me in hospital with fractures & broken bones.  Albeit being a Holden fan, I can honestly say the XR6 was a good car, and I was rather annoyed when it was pranged (other driver's fault).

Company policy (from Europe) is pushing for more fuel efficient cars, and the replacement vehicle list was pretty slim - the likes of Honda Accord Euro.
So I pushed for a far better car in that class - the Liberty, and management accepted.  The safety ratings really helped the cause.

So I'm now awaiting delivery of a Newport Blue Liberty sedan with a few added comfort extras.  This will be my first Subaru.  I have had many friends & rellos who have had long, reliable service from various Subies over the years, so I'm confident I made the right choice.

I'll be needing to install my phone kit & long range antenna, so I have basically signed up to view the threads in the car audio/media area, to learn how to pull the dash apart safely.  I hope to give back any tips/tricks that I learn.

Ive seen your car corner "B4" and there is many a 200sx that would be getting intimate with the rockwall while you disappear into the distance.

....AN 11 SECOND VL IS STILL A VL....

Welcome to the forum. You are not alone in your love of the Holden, as there are a few diehard fans here also.
What variety of Liberty have you chosen?

i dont regret selling my vy (bought the missus a ford escape, thats what she wanted) and im stoked with the subie as a work car. that said i'm keen on a ve sportwagon or calais wagon now that they have one. the ve is just light years ahead of a vy, vz and well worth considering.

ive worked for holden for 14 years in january.

Welcome aboard. Its indeed refreshing to have someone sign up here on these forums with a certain level of intelligence, that's willing to contribute a decent discussion!

Interesting work car you had, considering your passion. I'm sorry to hear that you had suffered injuries and the loss of your vehicle, but its good to hear you can remain level headed about comparing the cars!

You'll be most certainly happy in moving into a Liberty. Which particular model did you buy? You'll be most pleased with the fit, finish, ride and handling of the car. Subarus are indeed infectious. Hence why we're all die hards, deep down.

XXB4XX too. wink

I myself unfortunately do not share your passion for those particular cars (i have a real soft spot for Holdens...ahem.... pre-commodore), but at the same time, I can appreciate the time, effort, dedication and money that go into the restoration of such collectibles, and I suppose I do enjoy them from that perspective.

Cheers

Alex

Thanks.

Sadly, I won't be allowed to perform any performance mods sad

Might get away with the swaybars & maybe some springs/shocks if the OEM ones happen to wear out & become "unsafe"wink for the country trips that I do, but it's a very long shot!

Looks like it will be another 2 weeks before I finally get it.....:black eye

Well I have good news & good news....
Got my plaster (well fibreglass) off early, but as the bones take a bit longer to heal, I now have a lightweight moulded plastic brace instead, which is far more convenient.

And the better news, I get the car next monday.  It will probably get about 400km on it from Monday to Thursday.  I am planning to take it interstate on the weekend though - 1700km return trip.

Anyone know what km the first service is supposed to be done at?
(Not that it's much of a 'service' these days anyway - more an inspection)
