Jamie's Suby (Conversion)

  Top of Page

Hey guys,

Since I haven't made a formal introduction here goes.

I drive a 98 Subaru Liberty Heritage Auto smile..   (dont stop reading it gets better).

The car has been through quite a journey to get to where it is today, so here it is.

Firstly I bought the car off an old lady with 59,000KM on the clock, the car was immaculate..

First mods were of course the Turbo bonnet, Projectors and a Cannon that made it drone like mad.

My brother(Scott) wakes me up one morning to find the Neighbours Kid reversed into my car... - sad day..

Get the front end resprayed so everything went better than expected.

Next up was the Wheels, when Scott sold the blue car, I just had to have them...

Then, I typically I blew the headgasket at 80,000KM - the fun begins!..

I decided to convert the car, after seeing my brother sucessfully do a V7 sti conversion.. and his plether of knowledge on Subaru's it was an easy choice...

Went to Ichiban and picked out a nice Japspec V5 WRX, get it home and check the plates/Turbo's and realise its actually got V6 STI gearbox, Turbo, and V6 STI goodies... woot!..

I dont really have any pictures while we were converting it, photos were the last thing on my mind tbh - working in IT and trying to be a mechanic part time was an interesting experience...
for the next 3 months every weekend, me & scott got to work on the conversion in the backyard/garage...  It's much harder than it looks, ran into afew issues with fiddly parts, and the speed sensor snapping off in the gearbox(what a ***** that was).. but we stuck it out and got it done. Big thanks to Al at AM-Auto for splicing the looms.

So far ive had the conversion done for about 3 months and loving every second driving the car, can't believe I couldnt drive a Manual till i did the conversion!..

Got the car Dyno'd with the standard RX exhaust - it put out 126KW ATW..  I now have a full 3 inch turbo back with a split dump, so it should be around 150/160KW running standard WRX boost 13.4PSI?.

Anyway here is how the car stands today, I dont really have any "big plans" just going to lower it abit, and get the windows tinted..  thats it.

Very nice gen2 Jamie. I'm kind of surprised you didn't have it done in 1 day considering how much practice Scott has with conversions by now. big_smile
All it needs is a wing wink
