Sold the Subaru, replaced it with a Honda.. but all I know is Subaru's! (and Holden V8's of course):secret:

Unfortunately, that's only half the job.

For best results, you'll need to wire up a controller to make most effective use of the water jet.

More reading here....

Oh, I still have a TMIC with your name on it.

That's virtually what I did except I mounted a spray either side of the top mount because I found the sprays hit the splitter, I already had the dual pump washer bottle & funnily enough used a cruise control switch too but it's connected to a 5 second delay switch......works a treat.

"making the car go better" will largely depend on how you use the intercooler spray. autospeed wrote a very in depth article on this and discussed how most people misunderstand the function. usually they will program/turn it on when getting up it, however think about how long you actually have your foot welded to the floor for the spray to be effective??? when you really want the spray is either just before you get on it or directly after. this way you will start with a colder (less heatsoak) cooler before hand or bring the temp down quicker after you have wasteded the POS beside you who thought the lib was a family car!

Yeah it makes a bit of a difference in summer, I usually hit mine a couple of times if I'm at the lights & think I'm going to have a run but I rarely use it in winter, doubt I'd go through a washer bottle twice a year, a lot of guys have it connected to a hobbs switch or on a certain boost setting but that's no help at the lights where you really need it to get rid of heat soak before you start, but most of the time I'll only hit it once on a run cos it stays on for 5 sec, it's a Jaycar switch that mine's connected to & you can adjust it to go for any time you like.

Re: Intercooler Waterspray

i have a spray for the cooler.

And i don't use it on a day to day basis. Cause it does bugger all really. And besides that, i have mind running off the standard water bottle, it will drain it in 15min of spirited driving....... and it doesn't have an auto "out of water" switch off. Cause on the auto/on pozzy it comes on at 12psi i think......since my b4 is running 20psi.... then its on all the time pretty much!!!! heehee:comando:

I only use it if ive been sitting in traffic for a bit and i know that i have to give it a bit and get the twins going. I will "purge" it and cool the cooler down before i give it.

But other than that, its a wank feature cause it lights up a blue led mounted between the astray/lighter!!! heeheee

Re: Intercooler Waterspray

I actually tryed the same thing on the dyno. I Got slightly more midrange (like a bee's d!ck) but top end power stayed exactly the same.

It think the fact that the B4's IC is just in-efficent on a run after run on the dyno situation. Maybe the rexies are less prone to heat soak then the B4's

I know for a fact that my 04 Foz turbo is much much better when it comes to heat soak. Infact the only issue it has when its "heat soaked" is that boost comes on in 1st later and for the 1st time that you do it aswell. ie, if you give it a bit outta a servo after filling up it will "lag" a bit. Then you stop 10 seconds down the road and give it a bit again...... all back to normal.

I dunno about anyone else but if i fill up my B4 at a servo i can't give it at all until i drive for like 2 min, cause if i do it will ping like hoe on crack!!! heehee

If it's Broke, Use a Cable Tie.

Re: Intercooler Waterspray

It's not that hard mate,

Just go to bunnings but a few parts and have a fiddle for a few hours.

The real question is, what do Wagon owners do as the spot for the second pump is taken up already with the pump for the rear window washer.

I was thinking of pinching the electronically activated valve setup from an SV21 wagon as they have no 2nd motor, just a valve that runs the water to rear window or forward (I know this as I used to own an SV21 and mine broke) and putting that after the rear window motor.  The valve is about the size of a film canister and is mounted on a bracket,  It's seperate from the pump assembly, I'd just have to figure out some relay's and the plumb it up.

That's a lot of effort in mucking around though, and by the time you get the autospeed controller fitted (I think all other methods are just really clumsy) the cost would be close to $300, I think I'd rather just go straight to a FMIC setup.

Cheers
Darryl

Are there any issues with the amount of water that is spayed onto a topmount cooler. Where does the water go onto when it passes through the cooler? I figure it's probably fine as plenty of water must go in during heavy rain.

Yup, you just answered your own question, it just drips down to your gear box. If you think about the old Coolgardie safe, a box with damp canvas that kept the food cool by wind passing through it, what you need is to wet it then let the wind cool it, so a 5sec spray every 30-40sec is probably more efficient that keeping on soaking it unless you are stationary.

I was wondering if anyone who has read the article which wires do what? Im stuck on the wiring part of my water spray installation. Also I dont seem to be getting any power through those power wires that the author claims is in the factory washer pump loom. Any tips from anyone?

Re: Intercooler Waterspray

theres a gromit in the firewall just below the mastercylinder for the brakes and to the right of it. from memory this hole enters near the wiring above the cutch pedal so really good to run a line for a switch
