by seano on 31-08-07 10:17 AM Just to get all your attention, I'm posting a new thread that has a shef life of only 36 hours! Rang the exhaust shop and he laughed when I yold him the car was too loud. No worries, he says, bring it back monday and We'll quieten it down.... What do you reckon? Keep the 2 1/2 and replace the rear muff. New headers and a cat will come later with more funds, but what can I do to get that subtle rumble from the 2.5 without ( I have to admit it... gulp) sounding like a bloody lancer. Those cars with the big exhaust sound and little to back it up were the ones I always heaped cr@p onto... Now I'm one of those drivers! Help me restore my pride in driving my beaut wagon ! I want my engine rumble back! |

by seano on 31-08-07 12:08 PM no, it actually does sound like one of those lancer cars with an exhaust tip. We went for an impulsive midnight drive to Wollongong last night through bundeena National park, absolutely beautiful, but I have to say that the droning noise of the muffler when climbing and when the emgine sits about 2 1/2 thou rpm reverberates throughout the car and we both (thats right WE!) arent the biggest fans. As I said, I'm kind of impulsive and the car will be doing a few long drives, which I absolutley love, and we aint gonna bear that Milo tin lancer sound for hours and hours on end. What size pipe? Any pref on the muffler also? I'll keep the exhaust and just change the rear end..... 2 1/2 pipe out the back? |

by seano on 31-08-07 07:55 PM I dont mind the exhaust at the back at all, Actually I quite like it, but the sound seems very hollow and the buuuur while accelerating is really giving me the shi#s. Will custom headers and cat solve the problem? Can anyone recommend a place in Sydney for custom manifolds? MRT? I want it to pur at idle and roar when the foot goes down. (yeah i know the engine is stock but I'm yhinking in the long run I'm gonna stick to N/A rather than a conversion. Maybe a rebuild /new motor in a few years though. |

by 988OXR on 31-08-07 08:02 PM that hollow sound is also due to the fact the zorst is still clean. Meaning the carbon that is in the exhaust gases hasnt lined the metal hence the harsh sound. once it does line it, you will notice the car sounds smoother than tinnie |

by castek on 13-09-07 05:30 PM when you guys say they wont fit an RX, and that you have to modify them, what exactly did you have to mod?

have to extend the pipe work that heads up to the motor as they, the headers, hit the x member. |

by castek on 13-09-07 05:46 PM that sounds pretty easy. did you do it yourself or get the exhaust place to do it? |

by 988OXR on 13-09-07 05:48 PM The zorst place bought them from X-force. X-force said they were a direct fit. they weret so they modded them and xforce got the bill |
