I thought this one was coming too me.. CLUTCH - HELP

  Top of Page

okay well, since I got the car 5 months ago (2005 Manual 2.5n/a Lib) the clutch used to screech here and then on a take off, I ignored it thinking it was a dual mass clutch characteristic... Then it started making squeaking noises on idle if the clutch was out (clutch bearing), now tonight I did a 4th gear to 3rd down change and it made a very loud grinding noise..... NOT GOOD!

I pulled over and then went to take off again and the grinding noise was even louder this time and I smelt a huge waft of frying clutch in the car... Luckily I was close to home and hopefully I didn't cause too much damage.

In my opinion I think it needs a new thrust bearing, clutch and the flywheel machined. Essentially I want to know how much I'm looking at if my guess is right, if not please let me know!

Warranty pays the first $2000 for gearbox/clutch so finger's crossed its under that!

i got my clutch replace for under $1k (not under subaru) with excedy

however i dont recommend it (the noise from the spring is annoying at times...sound like a truck engine breaking)
well the thing is after my friend further research and sound that if it is made in australia it only have 4 large springs
however the japanese model have 6 springs which doesnt make the noise this is due to the 6 springs (hexagon) is closer to a circle than a square

oh this is referring to the solid mass, if it is a dual mass...many say to switch it to solid smile

It is difficult to engage gear (biting point is almost non-existant)

Put your foot down when drivign and nothing will happen (as if you're putting your foot on the clutch)
