I'm not bored but I do have better things to do. Muffler rebuild.

I recently got my long awaited GTB half cut plus most of the rest of vehicle to provide the driveline for my Green wagon project. That's going to happen during my christmas break, another story.

Anyhoo, the GTB I bought had a HKS Super Drager diff back zorst on it. Bonus I thought, it's a JAZMA muffler so will be quiet but still flow well. Normally yes, but not this one. I looked down the tip into the muffler and all I see is fibreglass fluff, not good. The all stainless muffler has(d) a mild steel perforated tube which has now been returned to earth as dust, hence the lack of support for the fibre glass packing.

All is not lost. Looking at the muffler there is a weld seam at the rear of the barrel so I figure I can slice through that and open the lid and replace the perforated tube, then weld it back on. So I did.

Top cut off the muffler, you can see the huge amount of glass packing. The perf tube used to go through the middle with steel wool around it, presumably to stop the glass escaping.

Here's the cap of the muffler with the new perf tube welded on, I also went to coles and got some 'Curly Girl' pot scourer SS wool to replace what use to be around the old tube.

So I slid it all back together and welded the cap back on in the relevant spot(I marked it beforehand). I was thinking about tigging it but thought of the gas cost and grabbed the MIG with SS wire(what I use for all pipe fabrication anyway).

I had to get inside the tip to weld the other end of the tube to the body. Not so easy, could only get three solid tacks in. it would have orginally been welded to this first prior to the barrel being fitted.

Bit of a rub over with wet and dry and it's ready for use. Here ends the story.
