I'm a convert

  Top of Page

Hi my name is Gavin, I live in  North Melbourne. I picked up my 96 Subaru Outback yesterday. How good are these cars.

I have been involved with club rally for many years and have been preached to by Subaru owners. Why didn't I listen.

I can't wait to get some miles under my belt and make that dificult decision lift it by 50mm or lower by 50mm.

I do have a quetion, does the Outback use Liberty suspension components eg Struts, Springs, Bushing.

Cheers Gav

Gav, I'm an Outback convert; other than Shocks and springs( strut assembly) most suspension components are the same- find a local supplier wit ha Nolathane book. Raise or lower- what are you going to do with it? There is someone here with a lowered Outback, lots of mods, but mine gets dirty. KYB shocks, King springs, standard height, Nolathane bushes here and there underneath- check what is worn ( depends what the previous owner did with it) , and solid rear swaybar links- big change to the steering and body roll without going for a heavier sway bar.  I run Goodyear wrangler a/t's, a bit noisy on bitumen, but work well at speed on gravel ( not quite as good on wet bitumen as the Yokie at+11).
Depends what you want to do- This set up is perfect for me- 600k's every week, I'm happier on gravel than the crap bitumen around here, and we have an awesome dirt run for the back road home- it will back into corners comfortably, plus whip anything thats not awd on roundabouts in town.
Enjoy- you have a unique weapon, and keep in mind, when compared to a Liberty, you probably have a 2.5 dohc engine and 4.11 gears.
Rave rave rave etc- mine is almost due for replacement, I can only see a new Outback; I could buy a v8 Audi allroad if I want, but I don;t think it would hack the pace.
