When i was a kid, i had a fixed wing spitfire RC.

We little petrol motor. I had it for a while until i flew it into our TV antenna. Which destroyed it AND the TV reception.

Sold the Subaru, replaced it with a Honda.. but all I know is Subaru's! (and Holden V8's of course):secret:

Re: I just bought a R/C helicopter

No RC helicopters are much better then the cars, I have a 1.5 foot helicopter that I love, it is only a basic one to get me use to flying.  Then I can spend some money on a better one.  I would have been shattered if I bought the more expensive ones and crashed it and damaged it as much has I have done to this one.  It is currently out of action, need to take the soldering iron to it. big_smile

Lots of fun thou, recommend.

Re: I just bought a R/C helicopter

I got one of the ~$200 RTR helicopter kits for Christmas 2006. Flew it inside for ages to get used to how it handles. Unfortunately, at low hover there's a massive amount of rotor wash (turbulent air 'recycling' back into the
rotors) which makes it really hard to control.

I decided that I couldn't be bothered doing it slow, so I took it outside... Yeah, not the greatest of ideas. By the time it was off the ground, it had veered off over the pool. Of course, I'm forced to keep it in the air at which point the breeze blew and took it next door.

I'm standing in the back yard of ma and pa's with my brother and dad watching me lose my new toy, all the while giving me totally useless "advice". It sort of all ended when I hit the top of the plam tree next door.

Two bent rotor shafts (it counter-rotates two sets of main blades using a sleeved drive line) and three busted blades later...

Sigh.

The next day my brother and I went out and bought RC cars. I managed to strip the gears in the front and centre diffs after 10 minutes...

Stupid hobby.

I am getting one of those hydroplanes, that has to be the best fun ever, and there is plenty of water around now where I am, flooding everywhere, and it's still raining !

I have a Trex 450xl Heli and a Tamiya TA05-R rc car. Both have been sitting on my shelf gathering dust since a year ago when i got my Lib. Great hobbies until you purchase a car. I'm sure i'll go back to them once the novelty of a Liberty wears off. (Not likely)

Yeah you could have triathalon events with it...... water, road, air.....even off road, stand it on it's arse & you've got a chopper too.

I couldn't see it being that expensive either as it's pretty simple.

Re: I just bought a R/C helicopter

i was into the RC car thing for a few years. if i had've saved the money i spent i could've built the nicest, fastest lib ever lol.
one car cost me $2100 with no motor or radio. motor cost $700, it was a hand built motor which i gave to a mate to port out even more and make a custom grind crank for me, radio gear cost me $800, was FM and had the fastest steering servo at the time, 0.02 from centre to full lock.

one crash and theres a few hundred in parts

now i just have a $250 tamiya electric, which i have spent about $150 on and it handles well, goes quick and is tons of fun

I flew model gliders when I was younger.... best way to learn aircraft control as theres no motor to you get you out of trouble! My step father was big into it (competition level etc) so I ended up following for a bit. Helped knowing the owner of a top hobby shop in adelaide too!!

Ive only now gotten back into RC cars. I have a 1/10th scale TT-01 - setup for drifting. Sheit loads cheaper than modding the RS, so having some fun with that. Just weekend muck about stuff with a good mate who has the same setup.
Im just chuffed I kept all my old transmitter and receiver gear. That has to be the most expensive part of the whole thing.

As for choppers... big ups to anyone who can control one!!

I have two RC Heli's.

http://www.airbornerc.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=474

This one is a little hard to fly, and is broken at the moment.

http://www.bladecx2.com/1Picture%20734b.jpg

This one is a lot easier, but still hard. It also is awaiting a new set of rotors and a recharge to go flying again.

My sisters bf said he would sell me his big nitro for $600, 1800 rotor span, it's awesome, and loud, but it will probably just become and expensive ornament.

Fun post guys!

I bought a Helicopter and crashed it within week. It was totally repairable but I never go around to fixing it.

My focus has now shifted to a scale model Couta sailing boat, which I'm building up to look exactly like my real life one that I race. It's great fun building something from scratch rather than having it ready to go out of the box.
I've stripped the Helicopter and am using the servos to control the rudder and trim the sails!

Perfect!

Deal! I haven't done too much thus far, so will take some pics as it comes along. It's going to take a while to complete though as I don't have a heap of time to devote to it at the moment.

couldn't agree more, there's no way I'm going to rush this one as it's ornamental as well as a working model.

Haha ozlib sponsorship on my model boat! Is someone going to pay me to build it? Than I might consider it....
