I have a dilemma

  Top of Page

Hey guys,

My dilemma is that I was going to trade my car in for an 05 Lib GT, now this was running fine, until there was a heap of Gen 3 GTB pic's posted up on the RS club, now I am thinking about getting an 01 GTB that has just come up for sale!!

I have always had a massive love for the Gen 3 GTB, but the new Gen 4 GT is a bloody good package also.

I am just wondering what other people would do in the same sitch.

If I sold my car, I would be able to get the GTB now, were as the GT would have to wait until around Oct.

Please post your thoughts smile

Re: I have a dilemma

the GT is a much newer car and has a fresher looking interior. i love when the dials turn when you start the engine. i've also noticed on my dads 04 liberty that when driving in his undercover carpark the dials are all lit up, though i doubt the dashboard is the most valid reason for buying another car.

is the GTB a grey import? would there be anything you could/would remove from your current car to put on it?

would you want to sell your rims? or swap them with my 16's and a bit of cash (o:

october isn't too far away, and if it doesn't hurt you financially, go for the GT.

Mickey ...

Trying not to be as biased as possible here ... but I would say Gen3 GTB.

I was in the same position as you a few months back, but decided I love the Gen3 too much to go for a new GT.

My father who has been looking for a GT ended up buying a B4 yesterday smile

I think there's not much difference between the Gen3s and Gen4s ... so go the Gen3s! Save the money and buy a house or something that will appreciate, not depreciate

I was in the same situation a year ago. I was just about to hand over a deposit for a gen4 gt when a genuine Gen 3 GT-B Legacy came up for sale. After driving the GT-B my mind was made up. It handled better than the Gen 4 did and the fact that it was a  unique car sold me. I love it when people ask about it ie - 'What's a legacy ?' , Is it a  turbo ? How fast does it go ? etc. You would'nt get that with a GT as much.  I also saved a sh*tload of $. I am happy with the decision I made but everyones taste and $ are different. You really need to drive both to decide.

The only GT I'd go for is the STi. Handling in the standard GT is pretty similar to a regular 3.0R but with a 2 litre turb. That's why I went for the Spec B.

You probably already know this but over the standard GT it has 2 differences. A great suspension set-up (for a stock car) done by Blistein and awesome looking 18" alloys which I get looks about all the time.

Insurance is about a third of the price of a turbo, you are getting a brand new car and you can pick up your car now! Well they are hard to get, but I doubt you'll be waiting til October.

My 2 cents......

I was leaning towards the GTB, but I found out this morning that the one for sale was a conversion. sad
Which I don't really want to buy, if it was a personal import then I would have taken it.

I love the GTB's far too much LOL

Both unreal cars.

But 2 big choices, newer, almost always better and nicer.
Gen3, rare, looks hot, harder to resell as they are unknown.

I'm currently on the lookout for a Oz B4. But if I come across a manual Jap spec RSK sedan (mmmm JDM goodness  lol  rear wiper etc) I would grab it in an instant if it was all legit and able to be registered in NSW.

There are a few 3g TT wagons about but I'm not really interested in them.

Aus delivered cars will hold there value much better.

But at the end of the day I am not really looking forward to resale, as I will have it for a while.

As you probably know Gen 4's are much smaller and less ergonomic inside than Gen 3. Gen 3 will also hold its purchased value much better. I say go for the Gen 3.

I really can't see why a 3G would hold its value better than a 4G. The GT-B's being TT wagons that were never sold here new will be unique so they would command a small premium over a 2.5 RX wagon but I cant see say a B4 keeping its' value in relative terms over a 4G GT, irrespective of its apparent greater interior room. Remeber that for most people, arranging insurance for an import can be more costly and this does negate the value somewhat.

The 4G looks even classier inside and out and the styling is excellent-one of the best looking sedans on the market irrespective of price. That's not to say the 3G is bad (I am currently looking for a B4 myself..), but in most respects the 4G is an improvement, even if the Bilstein equipped B4 or GT-B does handle better than the mushy Oz spec 4G GT.

I said - hold its purchased value. So, a $55,000 car will loose approx $20,000 within the first year or two, whereas a $30,000 car will loose approx $5,000 within the same period of time. Obviously, the $30,000 car will also cost less to start with.

I misinterpreted the context of depreciation you were using. I do know that much of a car's depreciation occurs early on.

Where you looking at Spinifex's car. because you're right that was a conversion, done by Al though so you know it'll be good.?

There's a guy on here advertising a Gen3TT front cut:
[http:]http://www.ozliberty.com/forums/showthread.php?t=816[/http]

Just get the cut and get the conversion done.  It's probably cost less than the GTB and you'll get it now.  Pity Al's out of action now, but I'm sure he'd be able to recommed someone for you.

There was this awesome Gen3 GTB on carsales a while ago that was for sale in scarborough.  Does anyone know anything about that car at all?

I saw photos of that thing and creamed my shorts.  I wanted it bad, but still paying off some debts first.  Full Billstein, 18" 02GT rims, I so love the GTB scoop, the roof racks and rear fin.
