hypothetical interior question....

  Top of Page

If you were to get a gearboot from redline goods (big ups for [J] for the link), which gearboot would you go for, and why:

http://www.redlinegoods.com/images/both3.jpg
Classical black with black stitching. No boosheet.

http://www.redlinegoods.com/images/DSM1-05.jpg
Classical black with red stitching. What they call "JDM Style". I like to think of it more as STi Style...

So basically it comes back to the whole STi "badge"dilemma. Although my car isn't strictly an STi model, it does have an STi shortblock, STi Gearbox, STi wheels, STi strut brace (and possibly more STi pieces in the future)

The more I think about it, The more I'd personally like the Black on Black. If I were to go Black / Red Stitching, it'd mean I'd have to get the STi gearknob, and the STi momo steering wheel to make it complete....

discuss..

Personally I like the piped leather... I'm a bit confused as to why you think getting red stitching will suddenly make you an STi poser though. It's not like you're installing an STi branded shift boot.
Although if you get the stitched boot then the stock gear knob will look a bit out of place, so you'd have to get that stitched or replace it :victory:

I say go for it, those boots look quality.

Black for me but depends on the interior. I prefer the all black interior for the classy look. I think too much pink/red stitching will make the interior look like a sti which is prob a bit wrong for a Lib eventho there are sti libs. I think STI's are just always and will remain associated with wrxs. I know I know, sti libs and fozzys are great but still smile

i'd also go black on black, unless your interior is grey or black, then i'd break it up with some colored stiching.

ill be against you all and go for the black with red stitching, reason being is its different to stock, and the red will  match with the exterior colour of your car....

I just ordered a black boot with black stitching.

I'll let you all know how I go.

Ordering seemed pretty painless so far.

and it cost me $50 US. Not bad for genuine leather.

Will be interested to see how good the fit is... At that price maybe I'll get a new boot myself.

Yeah, these are the ones from Poland.

Italian leather sure beats Japanese vinyl (OEM).

and the price is cheaper than Subaru's ones.

Black on Black is what I ordered. I agree, Red stitching would look a tad bit ricey. I'd need the red stitched knob and red stitched steering wheel (both available from a V3 STi) to make it look anywhere near decent.

Re: hypothetical interior question....

The new gearboot arrived today. Not bad at all, seeing that it was ordered on the 17th of May, made from scratch, sent from Poland, and arrived today (28th May) - 11 days!!
I have fitted it in this afternoon.
Nice fit and finish. Extremely high quality. And the smell of fresh Italian leather now fills the cabin.
Looks good. I'll have to have a fiddle with it to get it to sit nice. The vinyl one just hung there, looked unexciting. The leather one now adds a touch of class to whats essentially a bland Japanese interior.

Sad looking original. New gearknob courtesy to Mickey.

New vs Old. The retaining ring was glued onto the old vinyl boot, and was a bit of a challenge to remove off the old boot.

Hit it up with some of the good shizzlenit, Renapur.

After installation, here's the finished product.

I highly recommend this to anyone contemplating replacing the gear boot, even if its for an OEM.

Again, thanks [J] smile

Nice. But Alex does it look a bit too big?
Is the new boot a bit longer than the original or do you just have to tuck it in a bit?
BTW nice pedals.

Looks awesome Alex!!.. 100 x better than the stock one!!  :victory:
Quality and finish looks pretty flawless aswell!!

Glad you're happy with it!

..and Fatcat, they actually give you the option to order the boot longer or shorter than the originals, so if you dont want the bunched look (or vice-versa), or if you have a short shifter, the option is there for you..

Cheers,

Jonno
