HSV W427 launched (Look out for Brendan's wood)

  Top of Page

... From http://www.hsv.com.au/news/news.asp?ID=857

23.07.2008 HSV W427 launched
Holden Special Vehicles has officially unveiled Australia’s true world-beater, the HSV W427.

The W427, which had the covers taken off earlier this year at the Melbourne Motorshow in ‘showcar’ format, began production at the company's Clayton based facility this week and sales of the seven litre 375kW ‘Supercar’ have begun in dealerships around Australia.

All 90 cars to be built in 2008 have been pre-sold and will retail for $155,500, plus on road costs.

Seems a bit pricey for me, but with 370kW it's nothing to be taken lightly.

LS7, 7L V8 producing 640nM of torque and 370KW - I wonder how this things sales will be given the current (and increasing) petrol costs.

See http://www.hsv.com.au/w427/ for more information.

What you guys reckon?

Just another "limited edition" commodore with a power increase and bodykit change.

Ever since the GTHO and Monaro's started fetching a high price, both company's brought out similar new aged models thinking that in another 30 years, these cars will be a collectors item.

I agree. Its a puss power tractor bucket piece of crap.

There's sooooooooo many other car's I'd rather.

Even a 454 powered HQ Monaro, if you want to compare tractors to tractors.

BMW M5 is what I'd rather. M3 is nice, but, gimme a Teuton bent eight any day!

Looks no where near as good as the concept car. Meh, 7 litres!!?, it must inhale small children with a capacity that large. There is so much better to be had for that kind of coin.

I think it's holden's attempt at curing AIDS.

Victims are advised to crouch down infront of the bar and prepare for liftoff, as the car sucks them in to the engine and refines them in to 640nM.

It is reported that this thing is a proper supercar. They have claimed it as Oz's first real supercar. As it can keep pace with alot of the ****e german scnhitzels around nurburg. It is expensive but only because There are only 90 being built, Obvioulsy they just dont want Bevan down the road to have one, which is pretty ****. But still it is a 427cu, 6sp TR6060, high flow exhuast and MRC!! plus that crazy red interior. Even Though its american and German parts I would still buy it if i had that kinda money becuase it's a holden built by Australian Idea's.:neo:

Theyre building 427 of them, not 90. People who buy them will most likely be collectors or enthusiasts who will garage them 99% of the time. So i dont think people who buy them will be concerned about petrol prices.

Too expensive imo and theres far more cars id have for that sort of money.

I'd like to see a video of this thing crackin' round a track. I'll bet my left nut that it would sing and would be capable of ripping quite a sufficient burnout / drift.

I think it will go ok, lots of power + Torque, completely revised suspension set-up.
Two things that will kill it will be :
1. It will have a typically notchy heavy Holden 6 Speed gearbox.....
2. Loads of weight over the front from the 7L Donk.

One can not deny but that 375Kw is a lot of power big_smile I say good on Holden.
I have heard rumour that the 427 Sales were not hard to get, and could have exceeded if they wanted to build more.

Ford havn't really had a go at anything like it lately, The Cobra was a joke, basically the same spec as the GT doner car with blue stripes and some stitching. It didn't even get a power hike, it was just the first to receive the 302Kw Boss V8, which only preceeded the rest of the FPV V8 range upgrade by a few weeks.
+1 to thinking its Hawt but big_smile

Teuton 8? Please explain.

And I think I would have the M3 far before an M5. E92 FTW

i don't understand how that works really...

if they can make that much power from an NA 7L then where's the 3.5L NA Flat4 with 320Nm and 185kw??

it's to do with balance and such isn't it??? a V8 is more balanced than a 4 cylinder???

Agreed 100%. Especially about the noisy Datsun. $155k is expensive for a 2door BMW with a lumpy bonnet. $300k is ludicrous for a twin-turbo 4WD VW Beetle.

Anyone who thinks an LS7 is comparable with the old big blocks of the '60s and '70s needs to do a bit more research into modern Chev motors. FFS an LS1 (aka "Gen III") V8 is lighter than an RB26.
