Howdy doody, indubidibly

  Top of Page

Hey all out there, another newbie here.

Andrew be my name.

Not quite qualified to be a part of this group yet, as I'm still looking for a car (Manual 2001-03 B4, w/ cruise and nil/limited mods due to insurance) but am looking to learn a bit more as I go.

Test drove 3 so far (1 Auto which was tired pinging etc; and 2 Man's, the last of which had a squeeky clunky clutch, and an unusual burbling liquid/water sound as you took off in first???).

Saw one for sale in Sydney (White, man, 51,000km's, only $20k), sounds too good to be true. Anyone know of a white B4 that's been written off as repairable (or not) recently? I know i read of a white one in WA i think?

Any recommendations on what to look out for would be muchly appreciated.

Cheers.

Welcome Andrew,

Finding a B4 with factory cruise will be fun. As they didn't come with cruise.

Good luck hunting.

check out this thread about the gurgle, was about my old car but my new one (a b4) does it slightly too, reasonably common. and my b4 clutch pedal squeaks too.

ps Ive got after market cruise control as well, there's a few around with it. it does an ok job but can struggle on hills an stuff where a bit of boost comes on, then ya go over speed and it drops back then gives it throttle so ya get more boost and over speed again and so ya surge back an forth. on the flat though its good.

hi and welcome to the forum.

in my opinion it's a little risky looking at written off cars.  If the chassis has been bent then it could be hard to straighten everything, and it may never feel quite right....  you're probably better off spending a bit more and finding a nice clean example.

Good luck with your searching.

look for a car with some sort of aftermarket ecu tune , because as you found out they tend to ping a lot ,and destroy them selves . aftermarket tunes eliminate this problem .
or even look for a rebuilt motor with a tune, obviously the owner has been through the ping and destroy scenario and learned the hard and expensive way and you could very well take advantage of this. a fresh motor that doesn't ping and has more power than standard.Win win
plenty around in that category, if i was to buy a b4 again that would be the way i'd go.
to buy a stock standard b4 now would mean to buy a car that most  likely has been pinging every time the weather got above 26-28 for the last 5 years or so,loose loose.
that's my opinion anywaygood luck with the hunt
p.s don't look at write offs
