how much did you pay for your Gen4?

  Top of Page

hey guys

just wanted to know whether I got a good deal out of the purchase (lease)

MY08 GT B with sat nav and carpets + the usual dealer etc charges...just below the luxury car tax threshold.....(yeah company wouldn't approve unless below)

so all in all 570XX drive away

mind you haven't picked it up yet coz there's none in the country...have to wait and haven't received an eta.... and if you must know the colour (steel silver)

so go easy on me if I posted this in the wrong section.... please do tell how much you paid for your GTB.....

that's a shame....but hey each to their own....

I initially was going to go with just the NA but preferred the 3.0 but fuel consumption was a concern...and due to stock availability ended up with the GTB.... not complaining at all....

thanks for the feedback tho....

cheers

The price you've quoted sounds fairly reasonable.

A friend got a MY07 GT Spec B - same options mentioned above, but with the full paint protection and from what I remember, total figure was just above the $60k mark, so your price sounds decent.

Your leasing option will make quite a difference though! - ie, number of years of the lease and size of balloon payment (if any).

Definately right Jonno.

Payments are dependant on amount borrowed, residual, term and rate.

Depends on the loan structure (financial lease/novated lease/fully maintained operating lease) it really differs on requirements for proving business usage.

If there are anymore questions let me know. Happy to help as i do it for a living.

Sorry in relation to D_Liberty's original question.

I paid close to that without the sat nav, but that ensured me into one of the first ones on the road.

If you got fleet pricing you're looking around a 4-6K saving.

wink Just jokes of course.. It's an awesome car.. although I do wish they'd made them a little more sleek like then gen 2 + gen 3...

One thing, keep an eye on the oil as with all cars, but with subies, it pays to make a habit of checking it whenever you get gas.. one of the boys on here had his go bang and they simply said, low oil, your fault.

Put some pics up when you get a chance..

BTW.. Being a total noob when it comes to leasing, can you be ar$ed outlining what it costs you in payments, before and after tax (?) what happens afterwards and whether it is true in your case about having to have signwriting on it to be a 'company car'?

Your experience would be appreciated!
wholly crap....ok....lots to reply to ....so here goes.... pics...well not likely as Inchcape the supplier said there's none in the country so they will be placing an order which means by the time it finishes building it will be in march and so delivery is end of April early May.... so i guess in time for winter and the lovely cold air .....

as for the leasing side of things...it is novated lease (orix) so all expenses are pre-tax... i kinda worked out that it would cost me a lot in terms of running costs if I paid for it with my after tax money....(family....if single not a problem)  .... i guess MY07GT can elaborate more on what novated lease is....  I will respond on what the variables are for my costings in the next response + quote...

ok....so novated lease (which includes the running cost etc done pre-tax) 4yr term so operating costs over the life of that term has been factored into the amount I pay back to the leasing company.... it is estimated with FBT to be about 2400 and about 2k for the repayment per month.....with the final residual should i keep the car to be 16500....

but the estimated travel per year is 25000 so at the end of the 4 yrs i'd have clocked 100k!!!!!! so resale value is absolutely crap....if that was my choice.... I'm expecting to keep the car...so mileage after the lease should slow down and eventually even itself out....

also the amount being calculated is pre gst.....but the residual is inc. gst....but in order to get it below the luxury car tax which was company requirement... they discounted and hence the inc gst price plus onroad etc was just below the threshold.....

so....the reason why i asked the question in the first place was to see if i could've squeezed a little more out of the discounting.... (always wanting cheaper heheheh)

hahahah I didn't expect that the stock level were so lean....would've expected that they would have the GT spec b in stock... the colour is not a popular one....silver....

and one other thing if its through a fleet buyer i think the norm is your will deal directly with the supplier and not the dealer...

Personally I think the Gen IV Liberties are as close to a European luxury car Japan has gotten since the glory days of Lexus in the late eighties. Great looking car.

I had the same car priced a few K north of your price, though I am on the left coast (read: expensive).

Above all, enjoy your time with the car, and look forward to hearing what you do with her.

Cheers,
Nik

Re: how much did you pay for your Gen4?

I did the same with mine here through work, but I went the 2nd hand option (MY04 GT with only 20,000ks on the clock).

Mine is a novated lease or salary sacrifice, all payments made pre tax dollars so reduction in net pay (money in the pocket) is not too bad but enough to get some tax benefits as well.

I opted for lease payments + tyres, fuel, rego, insurance, servicing, GPS, tinting and a little extra put into it for any incidentals. At the end of the FBT year you also get to claim back GST inputs. Anything I underspend on is also paid back to me.

When you look at it (payments) up front it is a bit daunting but then you have to remember it is pre tax dollars and what you would spend out of the pocket normally anyway, it's kind of like have a budgeting system in place for everything.

I also opted for a 25,000k FBT component, so if you do not make the 25k you will behit with an FBT bill as well.

I'd recommend seeing a financial advisor too, I actually had to as part of my agreement but it was a good thing as i managed to get some super advice and a bit of other info I was after too.

Plenty of info on the web about it. Some of it might be a bit hard to grasp at first but see what you can find.

i agree with you kevlar GT the costs seem exorbitant but it is better than spending your after tax dollars doing the same thing....

I actually did not see a financial advisor so you're one up from me ..... what advice can you give the rest of us that would benefit.... as I would be interested :nyam:

I'm on the same as KevlarGT... MY04 GT with 40,000klms on it.

25,000klms but lease is only over 2 years with a 50% residue.

My reasoning was also, if shop well, and you sell the car is worth more (and sold for more) than the residue value... that's money in your pocket, as the tax component has been accounted for.

My 10/07 2.5i Manual Liberty Sedan with Sat Nav on road $35,000. Looked at leasing through work but decided to buy it outright and Salary package fuel, rego, tyres, services and Insurance at the end of the day I own it and can do what I like without being tied down to a lease.

i didn't know you could only packege fuel, rego, insurance, maintenance.. don't you have to package the whole deal? ie the car, rego, insurance etc... Not just part of it???

I'd be very interested in packaging only my maintenance, fuel etc... which organisations does your salary packaging??

I bought an MY08 Liberty in Sep last year and paid about the same dollars.  Mine was a wagon, with paint protection, mats, etc .. but I don't care for sat nav.  Hence I reckon your dollars are okay.

MY08Liberty, your employer must have PBI status.  Otherwise the packaged items you mention would be subject to FBT.

Are you still waiting on this car D Liberty?
It sounds like you guys are getting better deals than I could get here. I shopped every dealer in Perth for a GT spec B manual wagon and got no love whatsoever. They were all talking $65k drivaway without the sat-nav. They told me that there was no way of avoiding Luxo Car tax, that even a discounted car attracts the tax on its full RRP. I ended up getting a used GT-B wagon out of NSW much, much cheaper. I'll still cop a grand more stamp duty in W.A. than any other state in Australia though.

It applies to people who work in public care, or charity organisations.  The actual name for PBI is "Public                 Benevolent Institutions"  What that all means I don't really know!

My wife works at the local public hospital, where they have PBI status, so our mortgage is technically paid out of her pre-tax salary - but in reality we still pay it after tax, but the amount of tax you pay is less.

Basically as far as we're concerned, it's referred to as salary packaging - the payroll people work out the best ratio of $$ to minimise the tax that employees in PBI's pay.  There's also some form of kickback to the hospital that reduces their taxes too (GST credits or something I think it is).

Re: how much did you pay for your Gen4?

Dtrally - Thats prices for a wagon so your about on the money unless your work is part of their fleet customers.

Novated leasing is good for some. But I personally would never take this option due to my circumstances. Points to consider:
- Must have a residual value (Large end of term payment)
- Amount of Kms driven per year (must meet this or penalised)
- Must be committed to the employer for the term of the lease or the lease agreement can be changed and costing you after tax if your new employer does not support a novated lease option
- You are essentially paying for all the running cost (FBT just pre taxed)
- You dont technically own the car until you fulfilled final residual payment (no depreciation claims)
- No modifications allowed to your vehicle (usually)
- Depending on how close you are to the below tax bracket, it may not drop you into the lower tax bracket to allow you to claim on that bracket.
- The most important one that no one considers, because you are paying pre-tax dollars, you get paid you superannuation after your car payment is taken out.

Hope this helps. Once again this is not meant to be negative, but ensure before you take out any sort of credit, you do your homework. A fully maintained lease may work for some due to monthly payment and budgeting.

Phil.
