Here you go guys have a read over this article,
It makes me laugh in one respect at how dealerships really do get the bad reputation they have, and also makes you a bit angry that they can be so dodgy and rip people off. :angry2:

That's pretty bad, doesn't make you very confident about taking your car to a dealership!

I am dreading when I have to take mine in for the first time... :shok:

Thats pretty disgusting.

Shows why I never took my cars (when they were new) to the dealership. I go to a mechanic I trust that still carries out the logbook service for warranty purposes.

Shows there are some "good" ones out there, but far too few and far between.

Another thing that irks me is the labour cost variations. Your paying the same branded dealership for the same service on the same car. why isnt labour cost standard?

I am glad you are on the band wagon of having your vehicle serviced at a trusted mechanic and all the while retaining you warranty , it is crazy how many people think they have to go back to the dealer to keep their new car warranty, My Dad was forever having to tell customers who had been mis-led by dealerships that they actually can get their car serviced else were.

Playing Devil's advocate... I have gone to STI Docklands for quite some time and NEVER... I Repeat NEVER had an issue with their work. I have had family get ripped of by Non Dealer services...

Rule is... People will bitch about anything and everything.

You mention "trusted mechanic" yet seem to rule out a Dealer Mechanic. That's kind of stupid - If you find a mechanic and you trust them they may or may NOT be a dealer mechanic. Just thought...

I never ruled out a dealer mechanic as a "trusted" one. Just in "my" experience of new cars and dealership services (Holden, Ford, mazda) I have found my trusted mechanic to be the one who owns Midas near me. Its all down to your own personal experiences.

But getting a service at STi would no doubt be a costly exercise and for the money you would expect there to be no problems.

I have found that dealerships that do X amount of cars daily dont have that personal relationship with the customer. Again "my" experience.

Last straw for me was a quoted service @ Mazda for $400.I paid $160 at Midas.

My 60K VY Holden came back from a dealer service with grease on the red leather in the door trim?? when i stormed back in there, i got a hmm whatever attitude. **** that.

Thats all too typical of a dealership attitude, that is why I don't think of them favourably.
As mentioned before Subaru Sti Docklands sounds as though they are good, but it just seems as though a majority of dealerships are hopeless, expensive and not very willing to discuss what work they have carried out.

I agree about dealership mechanics, My misses insisted on it for here Impreza and the first time the car came back with gas dye from the air con on the engine bay.  I could of cut and polished it off but wanted to make a point and took the car back and told them to get it fixed.  The returned the car to me with no dye anymore because they sanded the paint back.

That is Dealership mechanics for you.

I know that people who have had services done by the "subaru" section at Docklands have had less than glowing reports to make. That's why I go to the STI shop there. Price IS more expensive than other places I COULD go but it's all about personal choice :bye:

That being said I know people who go to their local mechanic and also get good service....
