I have nothing but respect for those things. The design hasn't changed in 30 odd years at least. A friend of mine brought one to a new years camping weekend at a farm. We thrashed the wheels of it, including many alcohol induced stunt sessions and it never missed a beat. Got air with 4 people on board at one stage!

I have a collection of vintage '60's and '70's Honda minibikes. Never had one as a kid, kinda making up for it now. Some are worth good money to collectors. You can still buy anything you want for them brand new.

yeah, it's awesome except having electrical problems at the moment, any auto electricians in tha house???

wagola, i just bought it from mnaheim fowles in Brissy $900 plus fees and rego.

hawks123, you're kidding right? haha i will be putting a bigger front sprocket on so might be able to top out around 95kmh... will lwt you know.
Accelaration is not too bad because the thing weighs less than 100kgs.

I am thinking it might turn into a project, weight reduction, re-bore?, bigger jets/carby?, different exhaust?, heaps of options, i'll keep you posted and put up some photos when i get around to it.

Aah the CT110, used to ride these around when I was working at the Willowbank dragstrip. I think they used to run 24 sec or so down the quarter, awesome! The only problems I had was with the throttle sticking, it was annoying/embarrassing when trying to work my way around the beams under the grandstands and below the tower lol Apart from that they were as reliable as anything, they still use the same ones I think.

I don't know whether it was just the particular bikes we used or whether it's just something these bikes do, but if you hold it flat out while changing from 1st to 2nd on dirt it'll spin the rear, you can get some decent slides out of them.

little posties are the go, they are almost industructable. ive only ever heard of one dying and that was a mates brother who pretty much thrashed it non stop but then they big bored it etc to see how much of abeast it would be.

but as stated above its pretty good that you can still get brand new parts for these as threy keep making them and the design is still going the same. its just like the 1200 dattos in south africa, they still make them today and one of my mates needed a part who is south african and got his uncle to send it over brand new. pretty handy thing to have i reckon.

also was good about posties --- cheap on fuel smile

There used to be a racing class for these about 10 years ago. They were bog stock except for the tyres and you'd see guys laying them over at Eastern Creek like they were Superbikes. Hell of a lot of fun low cost low consequence racing.

well guys i can claim to have one of the fastest posties in the country.... a few of the many mods and i do mean only a few are. big bore with custom high comp piston (secret spec but about 16:1 CR), race cam, flat slide carby (big.. off a 250cc 2 stroke), stainlees zorst, heaps of head work, runs on strait methanol..... and much more....... to make it handel you can fit cr80 front forks or even sl ones will fit... for the rear moving the swingarm pivot helps as does a set of adjustable shocks.... any way mine will power wheelie in 3rd..... they will go for ever and are a great bit of gear.

This comment is awesome, you have been itching to tell someone I can tell.

I have seen more and more of these little beasts being sold at wreckers over the past year or so. It seems people are taking note that they are worth something to people. The price will rise for the next year or so as they are populour in 'pop culture' at the moment.

Nice job Mike, but I reckon you've lost some of the appeal of the CT110. Slidin into a corner with the pannier racks shuddering is half the fun.smile

I got 2 :secret:
0-100km/h... Neither really get to 100km/h.

Was able to beat a friends 1980 318i to 70km/h though.

Re: Honda CT110

yeah that one is strictly off road. i had a road rego one and did a few less drastic mods to that...... after riding bikes for over five years its still the only bike i have ever stacked..... when you lean over the pegs start to drag and fold up.. thats ok but if you go to far the metal base of the peg digs in and levers the rear wheel off the gorund. next thing you know you will wake up laying in the bush not realy sure where you are and everything hurts. the postie was fine other than slightly bent bars and i ride it home a short time later.
for any one that has one the best mod you can do is remove the rear snorkel that goes from the rear of the air filter to the rack. its a massive restriction. now re jet with a .85-.95 main jet and lift the nedal one spot. you should feel a differance strait away and will cost you about $2.

Woop I've got one, not really a postie bike tho?
I thought it was a ct110, has fuel tank up at the knees, more dirt bike style then scooter. Anyhoo, its shot.
We used to have to roll start it behind one of our farm four wheelers, then we took it down where we get our farm bikes serviced. They pulled it apart, said it wasn't worth it, put half the shi(t) back in, and now it doesn't go sad
just sitting in the garage still with a full tank of fuel, offers? lol

Re: Honda CT110

yeah its easy. firts go to your local honda dealer and buy a few jets. just take the carby off and pull the bowel off the bottom and remove the main jet and id try a .85 to start with. take the snorkel off the back of the air bok and go for a ride. now hold it flat in 3rd and see how it feels? now put a slight restriction in the snorkel and if it goes better with the restricter in you need a bigger jet. just play with it till it feels good.do the same with the nedel hight once you have the main jet right. if this all sounds difficult maybe the workshop manual is a good idea. but its easy realy. if you cant get a jet the right size any decent engenering shop will have a drill bit the size you need.......

Re: Honda CT110

legend, thanks for that!

just a couple of ther quick questions:

when you put on the CR80 forks, did you change the front wheel, brakes, triple clamp and steering head bearings?

What rear shocks did you use, i have heard some Honda ones bolt straight on?

thanks for your help...

Re: Honda CT110

for the front end you can try and get the stock ones working better by adding spings and oil but as they say you cant polish a turd.... its eaisest to put new tripples in with new bearings and stem. just wonder round the wreckers and see what fits. i have a few sets.. cr, sl,kx and even some dt all that realy matters is the stem length and diamiter. but keeping it all honda does make life easy. for on road i would use the stock front wheel if you can. might need spacers to get it perfect but thats easy, again if you can use honda thats better. for the rear shocks i found an old set of koni rebuildabls. they where a little longer than stock and i also moved the top mount forward to lay them down a little. if you go longer shocks you need to move the swingarm pivot to keep the chain running nice and thats more serious work. id just get the fron nice and forget about the back if your not getting serious with it. for a few dollars you might even get a compleat bolt in front end with wheel and hydrolic disc brake then just lace the postie rim to teh new hub...... that would be trick!

It's funny when guys who've ridden bikes for years will get on a low power bike and don't give it any respect at all. My mate who rides a modified Ducati 900SS got high sided by one of these bad boys as pictured below.

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k285/dougmarilyn/2006-09-02%20Rally%20Car%20Pics/IMGP0159.jpg

He was wearing tracksuit pants and thongs and had about 12 beers under his belt. The trackie daks ended up down around his knees and he had a face full of dirt, funny as.
