Same happened with my UAI mate. Got 80+ for maths, english, music etc but a UAI of 68. My problem was I didn't give a $hit during the year, but put the effort in for the exams, by which time it's a bit too late...

I still got invited to do the course I wanted, which needed 78 or something, but decided to go to work instead.

Just to be different my marks were shyt and were reflected in my outstanding UAI of 56.94.
The moral of this story is actually show up to school kids and try. Its worth it in the end, apparently.

Good to hear that the Uni still let you into the engineering course, seriously in many cases the UAI is irrellevent, i didnt work through most of year 11 and 12 and put in the hard work for the final exams, but the year long assesments contribute to 50% of the final mark and i didnt do as well as i should.

Anyway i went off and did my diploma of business and scored my last job which was a cream job with not bad money, and about a month ago  with a simple case of being at the right place at the right time with the right connections i got my dream job and i started my current job with a much larger company who are paying me 50% more than what i was earning at my old job. I got all that by hard work post school, so it just goes to show a good UAI for many people is not the be all and end all. I am 21 and i have a set career path which will lead me to much greater career heights than alot of people who spend many years slaving over the books at uni only to start at the bottom earning not much more than a person starting at the bottom with no UNI degree.

Congrats and all the best.

burgs is right, for everyone who is younger than me on the forum your uai isnt everything... there are so many options now for career paths if there is somethin you like doing just go for it and chances are you'll get it!

evil rex - just got some inside word from my dads friend who will be my trainer next year and he said do 3 years of the apprenticeship, then put it to bluescope. reason for this is 3 years of the apprenticeship all the theory and skills are learnt and fourth year is purely on the job. apparently many who go to uni leave and end up doing the apprenticeship as the money is pretty much the same and it is much more hands on work.

.
yeah im not doing a tertiary package next year as i would have too much work to do. As im doing a school based apprenticeship in mechanics. so i wont be getting a UAI.

once my apprenticeship is over i might continue doing mechanics or just do something else....im interested in personal training or maybe join the forces:victory:

sorry for hijacking the thread:suicide2:

Thats what my brother did, he got a really good UAI and got a spot in a Civil Engineering UNI Course, just under 3 months into it. He just said bugger this i hate doing this not enough hands on for me, so he did a 6 month pre electrical apprenticeship training course and did free work experiance. At the end of that year he applied for a job at the place he was doing his work experiance and got an Electrical Apprenticeship.

Now just going on to his second year, he is loving it and with some OT he is getting good money. He plans do to do his Associate Diploma in Electrical Engineering while doing the last couple of years of TAFE, so not long after he finishes his trade he will be qualified Electrical Engineer with WORK EXPERIANCE.

Alot of these people out there with Uni Degrees are quiet useless in the real world as they have no hands on work experiance. A desired Criteria for my job was to have an Electrical Engineering Certificate, but i got the job based on having basic experiance in the specialised industry i service, as in the hunter valley not many people have worked in the industry i work in.

The biggest thing you have on your side is your age, you are still young and will soak up things so quickly.
