HOLY HUFFERS B4TMAN - look at those numbers!

  Top of Page

This must be the best-value mod ever.

Took my $1000 to Pulse Racing (02 9543 5007) and this is what I came home with.

All I wanted was a guarantee of no pinking, and perhaps 150 kw atw.

Paul said he could guarantee no pinking, and also that I'd be happy with the result. I am.

Of course everybody knows that my grandfather's Model T gave 250Kw with a flat tyre and a cracked plug running on kerosene on Tynan's dyno, but it didn't seem to be over-reading before the mods.

Hi,

Are you thinking of pinging?

Great result though mate, congratulations.

Cheers,

no offence but that looks like a shocking curve, whats with the double dipper in it? looks like theres average power from low-middle then BANG at v.high revs?

I'm thinking pinking, but only because I'm such an old fart.

They were interchangeable terms once, but that was  last century.

You're right, I'm rapt. Even tooling around town, the car's easier to get off the line smoothly; you hardly use any throttle at any time.

If you do though, it goes immediately.

I still have to get used to the punch of the second turbo coming in. When in traffic, or cruise mode, it's easy to just catch the start of the boost, and this can be a bit jerky, so to speak.

No chance yet for a decent drive in the car, but in overtaking mode, on the boost in 3rd, it used to feel quick before the tune. I must get out in the country soon.

Alex, your comment raises a question for me.

If power is a function of torque times revs, how come both torque and revs are rising, but power is falling? You'll notice that it was like this in the 130-150 kph range before the mod as well.

Perhaps someone could explain - is the relationship not direct?

In practical terms, the VOD is reduced, but not entirely eliminated, as you can see. It's only noticeable if you change up a gear into it.

You appear to have GTwagons double vod issue http://www.ozliberty.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9757

What looks interesting, Squishy, is that GTwagon's boost curve drops for the second dip, but it's only the power curve on mine - boost and torque don't drop.

It does seem a bit odd - something must be wrong because power is torque times revs.

I've just called Paul at Pulse Racing (great name). He confirms that B4 dyno graphs often look strange, because the torque dip at turbo change-over time upsets the inertia of the rollers, which then report the power figure a bit oddly, until they regather their momentum, so to speak.

Paul says that they have managed to get rid of this second dip on dyno graphs, but then the car feels crap and the VOD is much worse.

The car does feel great on the road. The VOD is definitely reduced, and the secondary boost feels as though it comes in earlier than the graph shows - right where the second dip is displayed, in fact.

Basically, I'm prepared to believe the torque line on the graph, and my butt dyno. The second power dip is an artifact of the dyno, not the actual power curve.
