Hi there... yet another honda convert

  Top of Page

hey guys

im from WA, busselton to be exact... and there isnt any support for subaru or honda down here.. its just me! lol

you will have to forgive the millions of questions i probably will ask... i am never content to take a car for granted... i must know how it all works and how i can improve it!! lol

im looking to buy a Liberty RX at the moment as a work/get around car but long term me and the missus want to get a WRX wagon

i used to drive a Honda Integra VTI-R and man the vtec was awsome... spent soo much $$$$ on that car, so clean and nice, and some idiot smashes into me... i loose the car and spend 6 months in a wheelchair... and the last 6months learning to walk properly again...

my mate has an 02 WRX and his car is one of the only cars i really felt safe in again, (the only thing i can think of that i didnt like compared to my honda was a bit of body role in sharp corners but i think a strut brace kit should fix that)... so i started looking into subarus... very very nice cars... the WRX is a great package, after doing alot of research etc and tossing up between the 02-03 WRX Wagon / B4 / RX Liberty - or wagon / Outback etc i am starting to settle on the RX liberty as a means to get around until i can work out our investment finances etc to be able to affor the WRX

i was very attracted to the liberty because it offeres a low/medium powered vehicle with enough torque and better load capabilities as the honda, that has a very high safety rating, is 4 door not another coupe, and with the right modifications will have the nice boxer rumble

that brings me to the other main reason why i like subarus... with the honda i had u would have to rev it up to 8000rpm (vtec kiks in at 6500rpm than rev limit at 9000rpm) but in doing so the car would end up going fairly fast, now i like to drive nice sounding and comfortable well handeling sporty cars but i dont like going fast... the boxer rumble on the other hand gives me a way to be satified with the sound and the AWD gives me the nice drive all without having to thrash the car or speed, great cruiser that isnt a heavy boat like a ford or a holden - another honda trait passed over ... light wieghting the car and having razor response and handeling and after riding in a few subarus now they have a very nice feel about them

from the research i have done the outback and liberty are almost exaclty the same (gen 3's) but i much prefer the sedan RX over the outback and finding an RX wagon is impossible (do they even exist? lol)

sorry for such alot of writing lol

look forward to sharing with you all!

Welcome to Ozliberty.

As Paul said, get a Gen2 GTB or GT, 2 get a wrx. The aforementioned Legacy's dont attract as much unwanted attention. wink

where i live WRX dont get any attention at all, most of the older dignified business people in the town are the ones that drive WRX and nice hondas where the bogans that get picked up all the time are driving commodores and fords etc... its good living in a country town... no1 even knew what my integra was lol

im now shopping around for an RX liberty

does the RS impreza and the RX liberty have the same engine?

the later model RS impreza was a 2.5, all model RX's are.

sounds like you had some fun with your integra, one of my mates recently got a dc2r and is wanting to do all the jdm type rice mods to it lol

anyway, i agree with people here saying to get a gt-b instead of a wrx wagon. although if i had the money to spend i'm sure i'd have a hard time deciding which. Maybe get a liberty wagon for now and see if you like the size. One main advantage to me is you can just lie down in the back of a liberty wagon, where a wrx is to small

In regards to finding an RX wagon, I gave up on trying to find a liberty wagon that was spec'd to what i wanted (2.5L, leather/suede, sunroof, manual), and was a decent price, so ended up getting an Outback limited with the plans to put B spec suspension in it sometime, which will work out a few grand cheaper and be nicer to drive.

Re: Hi there... yet another honda convert

rice and JDM arnt the same thing...

JDM is simple stock japanese parts and extras to make the car look and feel that little bit more refined and most JDM mods will have an actual purpose or meaning

Rice refers to the sh*te you see on fast and the furious... all hype and alot of usless modifications

each to their own i spose but i think that the difference is confused a little too much

my integra was awsome for space in the back... if u lay the seats down u can sleep in it and i was able to sit in the back with the hatch up too and face out for going to the drive-in cinema

the problem i have with the outback is the 2-tonne colouring.. other than that they are almost the same as a liberty, the outback has a 40/60 front/rear diff ratio and is 50mm higher and the RX is 50/50 and 50mm lower, slightly different suspension too

im shopping for a sedan RX at around the 01/02 mark for around 12k$ with less than 150 000kms on it... theres one in the next town up from me but i havnt been able to sort my finance out yet... its a good buy too sad

did they ever make a B4 wagon?

They did do a third generation GT-B wagon (?) but it never made it here.

Who cares about the difference between "rice" and "JDM"?

Cars are meant to go fast, not look like Barbies new plastic Corvette. :Pardon:

Welcome, by the way.

Considering I live in Willyabrup mate, and I'm the state rep (here and GtRydaz), you're a little bit off there I'm afraid. You might have seen me 'round a few years ago in a JDM Forester import. Or perhaps more recently in a white B4 with twin tip exhaust? My mate drives a bugeye WRX wagon, a few perth-wrx guys live in Busselton, Cowaramup and Margaret River. Along with a couple of the GtRydaz boys.

I have to agree with you though, the 5-0 don't even blink when you cruise past in a well kept import. Mainly because down here they realise a clapped out VL with 18's slapped on it is a far more dangerous prospect than someone who's taken care of their car.

Nowadays I'm kicking around in a standard Outback. The Outback has stronger suspension components (control arms etc.) so it was my choice for the terrain down here. That being said, I've already done the coilover/bilstein thing, so I wouldn't blame you for wanting to have a bit of a kidney shaker!

Maybe you should keep something open for the weekend referred to in my signature - meet some of the Subaru crew!

Cheers,
Nik

wow awsome!

whole time i was working on my honda i had no support so i was used to being alone lol

i didnt know there was support for subaru around... thats great!

iv seen a couple of WRX, a green forestor GT and a farer driving a WRP10

well definatly have to cach up, ill let my mate with the 02 WRX wagon know theres a crew around because he was in the same boat i was, he from binningup though... juss north of bunbury

after having the integra im definatly going for a more 'normal' mature car this time juss to get to work etc than when im a bit more setup again ill look at getting a WRX or something

"Who cares about the difference between "rice" and "JDM"?

Cars are meant to go fast, not look like Barbies new plastic Corvette."

.... thats a complete contradiction... u disagreed with me than agreed with me lol im confused...

im just saying that alot of people point at little riced up 'barbie' cars and say eerr JDM... but JDM isnt bling plastic crap its stock functional parts...

for example putting japanese STI parts on a australian non-STI subaru would be JDM... putting a 20$ flare kit, 50$ chrome lights and stickers from a discount auto parts shop is rice..

it doesnt really matter i just dont like to be in the same category as the idiots who do that to cars =/
