Hi from across the ditch

  Top of Page

Hey all, i've been lurking on here for damn ages, thought i should get into it. I'm from Auckland, and normally post on the clubsub.org.nz forums, I've got a 98 GTB Ltd which i rebuilt, and single turbo converted last month, and things are running bloody sweet as. The rebuild was with a closed deck 2L, JE pistons, scat rops, ARP head studs, built by Possum Bourne Motorsport. Got a few extra tid bits on it too, like a baffled sump, and a split fuel rail, and i converted it to an STi version 3 engine basically, and used a VF39 Single scroll... which pulls haaard big_smile (From the USDM 2.5L STi). It also has a 3" catless downpipe, stock 2.5" mid pipe, but with one of the 2 resonators removed, and an HKS straight through muffler on the end. teeheehee. And it passed it's WOF no sweat lol (Warrant of fitness, is that what it's called in oz?)

Anyway, enjoy the pics

You know it wink

Only exterior mod i want is to get is some lower springs. I'm convinced the previous owner in japan got it some lift springs, it is literally the highest GTB i've ever seen.

I'm wanting to learn a bit more about the AUDM models... Did you guy's get the "Gen-II" Twin turbo's? So far all the single turbo conversion threads i've seen have been converted from N/A's.....

I wish, you can only have either the spot lights, or the fog lights. I want to wire up a relay and get them all going at the same time :ninja:

Hey, no such thing as AUDM models, we only got Gen 1 / 3 & 4 turbo liberty's here so anything Gen 2 you see in Aus is either a full import Legacy or a Liberty conversion like mine.

Oh well. I guess that makes em a little more special then doesn't it.

And what's the rules on importing cars in Australia? Obviously you can, unlike the states, but is it very strict, or pretty much anything goes? In NZ, the laws are getting toughened up unfortunately, older car's are getting banned, and the ones let in have to go through "strict" (still bloody slack tbh) emissions testing. I don't know what the cut off point is for older cars, but in the last year there's been a mad rush to import while you can. There's an extremely good supply of gen II and III GTB's now big_smile (bad for depreciation though :s)

Just googled it actually, apparently cars older than 8 years are unlikely to pass the emissions tests they want to bring in. Fortunatelly cars already in the country wont have to pass them, so i can keep driving around with no cat converter big_smile

I think each state may have different rules but it's much easier to get older cars in I.E. pre 90 or over 15yrs old (not too sure) for rego, and if you want something newer you have to own & prove that you drove it for a year over seas before you can bring it in as a personal import & have full rego, you can bring whatever you like as long as it's for track work only & get limited B rego to drive to events or mechanic.
There are some companies which have special compliance rules which can bring in newer cars but they are very limited on what can come in & the numbers they can buy...usually cars that were not sold here.
