Hi everyone!

  Top of Page

hey guys,

first of all my names trav, im 19 and currently i own a '90 mx83 cressida with a few basic mods done to it but im interested in upgrading to a liberty after talking to a few owners and seeing some awesome libertys around, more specifically gen 1's (around 1990ish model if im not mistaken), im not sure if he is on here but R3SP3CT or something like that, he now has a skyline (i see him parked at his work)

anyway, the reason i joined up is im thinking of going to look at this car - http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/SUBARU/LIBERTY/details.aspx?__Ntk=CarAll&__D=turbo&__Dx=mode+matchany&seot=0&Cr=1&state_id=82&keywords=turbo&State=Victoria&__N=4294963801+82+408+4294963605+834+285+257&silo=1003&distance=25&R=5256404&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32|1||pCar_ImageCount_Int32|1||pCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime|1&__Ntt=turbo&trecs=4&__Nne=20&__Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&PriceMax=10000&__sid=117EBDA4C10B&Model=LIBERTY&Make=SUBARU

it seems a little cheap compared to other rs's etc i have seen around but from what im guessing its been converted using wrx gear as opposed to RS bits. Is this guy a member on here?

Im sure i will have 55 million more questions but i shall use the search button and try and not be too noob!

Thanks for reading my essay

Trav

Hi Trav,

Welcome to the site. I love Cressida's, spend a fair bit of time on Toymods...

I have no knowledge of the car you've posted though.

Enjoy.

TRBO1J and 1JZ747.... they both run 11s and under... and Project Sleeper also....

pretty crazy numbers... but being a 19 y/o male i dont think that a car running 11's is a smart move, i like my cars not being around poles!

well im legally allowed 125kw a tonne, being awd i wont be anywhere near that...i just want something to cruise around with that has a bit of poke, thats why the one i posted sounds so good... black... leather and turbro (cos turbos are 'fully hektik bro')

Those are the machines I was thinking of! Awesomeness.

Sounds like you've got your head screwed on mate. Hopefully someone can come to the party with some information about the car you've linked to.

Cheers,
Nik

yeah they are some pretty quick cars... yeah i try and keep my head screwed on, a mate of mine smashed his car up and now he can never drive again because it gave him really blurry vision, after i saw the car i have no idea how he survived so it sorta has kept me down to earth with my driving....

Sounds great mate, RS's are great cars - the Grand daddy of Subaru rally believe.

If you get it, be sure to post pics in this thread!

They ran the Leone in 84, no? Something happened in '82 aswell, but '84 was their first year in WRC.

Anyway. Keep up tracked on the RS mate. More details, someone here may just know the car.

Nik

Re: Hi everyone!

this is the one i looked at today: http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/pr … p;__Nne=20

im going back tmoz to fix his computer for him...and have another drive of it

i didnt drive it today (i was a passanger)

it seems really good, everythings clean as, 100% stock, i wanna check the auto out tmoz, it seems maybe a bit dicey but that could be him driving it im not too sure...just seemed the 1st to second shift wasnt great but that was only once.. everyting else is mint condition, anything else i should be looking for?

Re: Hi everyone!

That be fixed as simply as having it serviced.

In any case it not terribly expensive or hard to replace the auto, heck even a manual conversion could be on the cards.

There defiantly a worth while  car to get hold of.
Other things to look for that i can think of:
No funny noises in the turbo,
No rattles in the engine,
Rust can be a problem with older cars.

Just your usual stuff bro, maybe check the water in the radiator for oil, and conversely check the dip stick for water in the oil (Not that that's very accurate.)

Fair call mate, nine flat is a good price. As has been said, appears to be a very neat 'n tidy example.

Keep us in the loop bro!

Hey Norby!! Welcome to the site!

If you need any help specifically with RS libs - have a look here: http://www.rslibertyclub.org/forums/index.php?
Heaps of information in the technical FAQ/DIY section!

That first car you looked at looks like a GX conversion, with some added bits and pieces. The second one looks like a Jap grey import... my personal pic would be the second one. Theres something about owning a genuine RS over a GX conversion tongue. Although Id question the owner about the ABS.... AFAIK, ABS didnt come out until the series 2 shape in the Gen 1, and even then it was a factory extra?! Easy to spot when you look at the car though. There will be a metal box under the bonnet at the drivers side front with about 6 lines coming out of it....
If youre interested, I know of a VERY nice Series 2 RS, modified in all the right ways. You wouldnt need to change anything, drive away 200kW ATW performance. It is in Canberra though.

Good luck! Keen to see what you end up with!
