Hi All, check out my new ride!

  Top of Page

Hi all,

Thought I might say Hi to everyone, have been reading through forums for a wee little bit here after my mate XoN introduced me to the site wink

I have just bought myself a '98 RX 2.5 Lib Bilstein edition and got it on Friday just gone, the car I got from Vic has just had the rego expire so the weekend was slow and boring not being able to drive it everywhere!

It is booked in for the blue slip today (should be getting done as I type) and I will hopefully have it all rego'd tomorrow ;-)

I will post a few pics I got from the seller, I will get some nice pics of her this weekend after she's had a nice clean wink

The car is very appropriately named 'Billy' and she's my first car smile

Thanks mate, yeh the white looks fantastic, I've seens XoN's plently in blue and thats lovely, but yeh the white is great.

We are looking at putting some xenons in them, replacing the H4 lights with Hi/Low 8000k xenons (Think XoN is going the for the white 6000k to avoid the blue tinge) so that will be my first task.

Next one on the list is replace oil and oil filter, and give her a nice wash - this coming weekend wink

Nice car mate,
8000k? jesus that will be purple!!!

I suggest 6000k max, thats alrready blue most OEM ones are 4200k as they are the brightest.

I have 7000k xenons on my car and I already think they are abit too blue for my liking.. I wish I had gonew ith 5000k sad

Hmm.. interesting.. from info i've read the 8000k's are blue, bright with a slight blue tint, the 10000k's are bluer and 12000k's are where the purple starts.

6000k's are just bright white from what I have read.. I like the thought of white lib with bright xenons with a slight blue tint would look real nice imo.

6000k on left, 8000k on right.

I've got a mate at work who sells them, I am just going from what he has said also... Maybe different brands or bulbs give different colours slightly ?

Paid 17k for her, 114k km's on the clock, great condition.

She has run through the blue slip today, had to get 2 new tyres and a wheel alignment neutral Mechanic said there was strange wear on the sidewall of the front left tyre.. Apparently he has seen this in some subaru's but only ones with more K's.. some joint breaks and drops the car a bit or the guard so it rubs on the tyre.. I will talk with the previous owner tomorrow about it, its a bit of a worry though I will have to keep an eye on it.

Anyone else aware of this sort of issue ?

Yeh I will wait till I get home, hopefully will be some paper work detailing what was done - I guess it is fairly concerning though, got 2 GT radials put on it today - Wished I had more time to sus out tyre options but hopefully these will do the trick smile

Hm I am unsure, personally I like the thought, white lib blue tinge to the lights will just look mad as in my opinion :-) Either way the car is damn sexy and I love every second I look at her smile

Can't wait to go home and fiddle tonight hehe wink looking forward to having her registered tomorrow, take her out for a nice cruise smile

Only other concerning thing is she has got a rattle under the bonnet, not sure where its coming from but noticed it when I first had her idling, doesn't appear to be there at any other time, and is there when she's cold or hot as far as I know, I will have to check it all out at the weekend smile

I think the lid off an oil bottle that I found sitting on the strut tower might have contributed to the rattle

I think the 8000k HIDs will look best with the white paint. Might be too much whiteness with 6000k smile

Well some bad news has gotten to me after the blue slip inspection today.

First of all I had to replace 2 tyres as sidewall on 1 was warn down dangerously, $189 each - GT radials.

Second thing (MAJOR) is a blown head gasket. Not sure of the severity of it at this time, but will have to book it in over the next 1 - 2 weeks to get it fixed, the left front rim is also buckled so might get it machined.

So its a pretty massive bummer, good thing is it passed and I can get it registered tomorrow, but I am up for another $1500 - $2000 I would say.

That rattle that I found is actually the water pump, so I really am hoping its gonna be an alright job and not end up costing too much money.

Is a real pity I am really looking forward to having Billy all registered and functioning correct, she is such a wonderful car!

A bit dissappointing the RACV didn't pick up on all of this but I guess the check is not that detailed.. Will keep you all posted on how it goes anyway smile

Yeh I think I may give them a call tomorrow - not sure what sort of claim I can make or anything.. I mean they mentioned the coolant was diluted and the oil needed replacing but thats about it.

did they test drive it? i think thats crap for an inspection that should of been checked especially since the gen2 dohc motors are prone to blowing head gaskets as a few on here have done it.

Welcome to the site.

a bummer about the head gaskit, what test did they do to tell you? its not usually as easy as looking at it idling and saying 'oh the head gaskets gone' well if it is its very gone.

if the seal in the water pump goes it can give similar issues with overheating and bubbling in the coolant, get a coolant check done to confirm it if thats not what they did.
