Hey to all, got a '99 legacy gt wagon

  Top of Page

Hey boys and girls, just a quick hello to you all!

I got myself a jap spec '99 legacy gt wagon, the car is overseas where i drive it. Pretty enjoable car i must say, smooth and all the luxaries. Yes the power is not really there compared to wrx but a good allrounder especially being a wagon.

Well i've already managed to melt the rings (i think in number 4 cylinder) maybe due to ****y fuels overthere (Kyrgyzstan) but most likely to bad maintainance by the previous owner in Japan. Car had 110xxx km, my previous wrx had more k's ran way more boost and got a good beating before letting go of a cylinder.

I was very surprised when the engine let go in the legacy, car was completely stock too sad

Question: Do you think the legacy/liberty gt is mecanically weaker in some areas then say wrx?

Have to let you know too these legacy gt's go for around us$5,000 overthere, it's unbelievable what we pay for jap cars here sad

Cheers and i would appreciate any additional info on these cars...

Well the Legacy GTB JDM has more power than the wrx, but the delievery is different. Ive never heard of anyone popping the engine in a Legacy. What type of fuel did you use in it?

It definatly doesn't feel like it has more power, delivery is very different plus i guess more weight.
The local fuel there is not like your fuel in Japan, i tried to fill up with the best 95-98 but they use alot of additives that don't smell quite right. Smells like nail polish when you fill-up. Every petrol station has different mixtures and when you fill-up with dodgy fuel you'd here a bit of tapping under exeleration.

Unless you had your car detuned, the lower grades of fuel could have caused issues for your engine. I know i certainly wouldnt be able to put Australian Regular Unleaded into my car if i was in aus. I would check with your local dealer there and ask them.

In comparison with the Impreza sti of the time.
The engines power only differed with 0.500kg of extra torque delievered a 5000rpm in the Legacy. They do have a fair bit of extra weight, about 250kgs, but this depended on the model.

What do you do overseas?

I doubt there're any "dealers" yet in Kyrghyzstan that can detune the subi cause its very backwards there still smile))) I was born there but lived here most of my life but go visit relatives often. Loved the wrx i owned awhile back and couldn't resist buying a gt for a fraction of the price smile
I wonder how i can get it detuned where there're no dynos or computer gurus sad(((

I'll be overthere next thursday, its winter there so could get down to -30 C smile))))
i wonder how much extra boost that would create lol poor subi is gonna get one more test!

By the way does anyone know what it would cost me oz tax wise to get it here?
