Hey everybody

  Top of Page

Hey people, My name is Corey you can call me Pilot.
I live in Ascot Vale, Melbourne.
I drive a 1991 Liberty LX (Automatic unfortunately), which I am currently trying to mock up as an R.S model.
Modifications I have done to the car are, Nice stereo with Pioneer's at the front, Panasonic head unit, Rear speakers are Cadence as with the "10" inch sub and 4-way Amplifier.
Also has a nice cannon exhaust which has around a 4inch tip, (havent measured)
It does put out a really great sound though, Low and Rumbling like it should be.
No major engine modification as of yet, however there is a Blitz pod filter to give it a bit of punch in the higher rev range- 3500-5700rpm
Body mods which are still in the boot waiting to be painted and fitted are a Rear wing off a 92 R.S and a plastic hood scoop which looks like it should be on a WRX.
Main reason I wanted the hood scoop was to mock it up like an R.S.
Also the Tail-lights have been tinted (looks really mean at night)
Next major mods will hopefully be an R.S turbo engine and some nice WRX rims.
I only have the stock Suby hubcaps painted black at the moment so I am really hanging out for the rims at the moment. Also Racing seats would be good.'
Thanks for hearing me out everybody, look forward to seeing my Libby.

Thanks everyone for the nice welcome, to answer some queries and comments- Yes I will be coming to the meet on wednesday should be an awesome experience being my first cruise and all- minus the brake discs which need machining.

Here is some more pics hopefully they will come up alright, about the hood scoop I am hesitant as to whether I should put it on or not. However I have seen a Gold Liberty same model as mine with the hood scoop on and it looked alright... sort of.

So again thank you all for the great welcome and I look forward to meeting some of you (Id say all but it would be highly unlikely and very expensive)
and seeing some of these beatiful Subaru's I see in the pictures...:yes2:

Sorry I forgot these two yes I do have big plans for the Liberty even though it's an automatic...
My bad the stickers are a bit of overkill, I've always been a fan of stickers probably because of Matchbox cars..., but I am interested in the OZLiberty stickers that would look awesome on the door panels or rear window

Hey Corey,

You mentioned getting an RS engine into your LX... If I'm not mistaken, the 91 LX came out in FWD format?? That certainly would be an interesting driving experience...:scare2:

All else sounds good with the conversion though...

Get rid of the stickers, (unless you actually have those components on installed on your car) a couple of subtle stickers that mean something would be better. These stickers do not make your car faster! They make it a tad ricey, particularly cause it's a stock LX model.

Ditch the WRX scoop idea, it'll look too ricey, like what the wrx scoops and vents you see on Hyundai Excels!!
If you do end up getting an RS motor, just go get a RS bonnet at the same time.

It'll be interesting to see how the conversion comes along

Thanks for the input mate.
Yeah it is a front wheel drive, so putting a turbo engine in will definetley be an experience. However it is an auto so lend me your thoughts on that as well.
I agree with you on the hood scoop and the stickers, I have copped alot of comments from members so Im guessing I will take them off pretty soon.

Only problem about the R.S hood's is I've heard that the do not fit on to the 91 LX's due to the minor minor changes in the headlight structure.
Would that mean I would have to get a custom job ie: Angle grinder etc...

The spoiler will look good once fitted and hopefully some WRX rims in the near future.
Ive also got a cold air induction kit which I will be instaling soon...
Stay tuned.:help:

Re: Hey everybody

If you are looking at doing an RS conversion,

Then get a half cut, that will give you everything you need and ic of the rear diff with sharft to convert to AWD.

As yours is a 91 thats a series 1 gen 1 lib, so try and get a series 1 half cut then you will get the bonnet with it.

Hi mate! Your name is like my name, but I'm missing an 'e'... just like Merlins 'free th refugees' sign on Big Brother.

I like the colour of your car. Some WRX rims would definitely be awesome... they're something I've wanted for a long time, but my brother is trying to persuade me to save for 18's.

Re: Hey everybody

Thanks guys that half cut idea is definetley an idea I will be looking into.
What's an average RRP of an R.S front half-cut.
Also do you think I could use the door handles off a Legacy.
Legacy's have chrome door handles which really stand out and look good.
So does anybody know whether theyre will be problems when fitting the R.S hood.
AWD would be great, mind you I have gotten really used to (and good at) driving a FWD ie: being pulled into corners, oversteer, Front wheel burnouts etc....

So what about the transmission side of it?? Will I have to be a two pedal man or is there some chance down the road of switching it to a manual?? or is that pointless? I may as well start saving for a AWD R.S with stick-shift and turbo engine mmmmm turbines.....

Thanks for commenting on the colour mate I like it as well, however If I did save up for a new paint job it would probably be changed to black, blue or my personal favourite the club spec yellow?? you know the creamy colour some WRX's have...
And yeah WRX rims would just make it look absolutley awesome...

One more thing where can I purchase an OZLiberty sticker, that will look good.
Thanks guys for all the input and info

Ohhh and Weezer I just got it, your name is Cory without the e right??
At first I was trying to find the simmilarities between Pilot and Weezer

Re: Hey everybody

Just as old mate suggested, a half cut would be the best option for you if you wanted to go an RS engine conversion. No idea what the cost would be though.

Sounds as though you are pretty happy with the engine/drive train layout as it is at the moment.

I wouldn't bother doing the conversion unless you go AWD, the car would be a dog to drive in a FWD format, you'd be torque steering all over the place whenever it comes on boost!

I also wouldn't bother with the conversion if this is your only car or a daily driver, the car will be up on blocks for ages...

I almost be inclined to say bugger any more mods to yours, sell it and pay a little bit extra to find a proper RS, it would probably end up costing around the same in the long run.

(I love RS's)

If you do go ahead with the half cut, you won't have to do too much to get everything to fit, just replace everything on the front end of the RS onto your LX.

Manual VS. Auto - depends on what you like. I prefer a manual for a sports model, for the control and the grin factor. If you got a half cut, you'd most likely want to make sure you got the tranny (whether it be a manual or auto) with it.

Aside from the RS conversion, I reckon you should go the WRX rims, 17" tungsten would look sweet with the colour of your car. Lower it a bit too.

After that's done, at least your ride will look fast and the RS conversion will be less important!

Most importantly, if you do the conversion, chances are that when it comes time to sell the beast, you are going to lose all of the money you put in!

Ooooook. I tried but I just can't let that go without correcting you... FWD does not oversteer (without handbrake assistance), it understeers. If you want to get sideways, you'll find inertia drifts more than adequate. :new_russi

Re: Hey everybody

Thanks mate I knew it was one of the two, RWD's oversteer FWD's Understeer is that right?? and AWD=Fun.
Cheers on the conversion tips it does sound good, considering it is my only car I guess it may not be the best platform for a project car, keeping in mind that it is an auto and N/A.
So the best thing for me to do would be to buy a manual R.S and start from scratch on that one rather then trying to fit a square into a round hole ie; Doing up the L.X to make it like an R.S.
I am quite content with the L.X and the way its running minus the squeaky brakes and stupid door which has popped off its hinge somehow.....
So  I might keep the L.X  the way it is and just start from scratch on a new R.S.
Thanks for the welcome Alita.
